I hope it does work out, GTS. At least folks knowing the score - and that I exist! - might help build up some trust. BTW, and this always gives me a smile, there was a comment on a Georgian Doll Houses book at one stage - that one isn't one of mine, and Lancia stuff is also by a different Brian Long (we were members of the Lancia Motor Club at the same stage at one time, which is quite remarkable given that it's not that common a name); everything else, including camera books, is almost certainly mine. Anyway, you'll find I'm an enthusiast first and foremost, and I have a sense of humour. I wish I'd have found this site earlier, as I could have explained why things were up in the air instead of leaving a lot of people disappointed.

    Brian,

Forgive my ignorance regarding the publishing world, but was it specific pictures you wanted to use that had use prices through the roof or a large volume of pictures? We're they historical pictures or things from the modern era?

Hi, Shawn! No worries - the publishing world is a strange place, and even insiders can't figure it out half the time :) ... The problem stems from a policy of mine, which is to use contemporary factory pictures wherever possible. Usually, press images have no repro fees attached to them. In this case, they wanted to charge for everything (historical and press images), and at a starting price of 250GBP (about $375) a throw! I hope people can now understand why the delay occurred. If I'd have gone my traditional route on illustrations, the maths becomes frightening...

    Hi, Pietro!

Absolutely - I think it will still be there, too, as I haven't asked for it to be changed. Many thanks to you, and an awful lot of other nice folks that Rod at Veloce brought in to help on the project. I'm incredibly analogue, so Rod did most of that side of things. As such, he's the man that kept the book alive :)

    All the best, Brian.

I guess the answer to my question that I posted (#14) earlier in this thread on April 15, 2014, "So, has Ferrari S. p. A. screwed this up for everyone?" is a resounding YES - and that is just too damn bad, and I'm sorry to hear that.

Rather grubby of them actually. Shame. Most manufacturers would support authors who go to this sort of trouble to represent their products. I'll never understand Ferrari in cases like this.

    Brian,

I have several of your books on Porsche and Mercedes-Benz. I enjoy them and use them for reference. I hope your experience with the Dino book hasn't put you off of future books about Ferrari, but I can certainly understand if it has.

The publisher is still saying that the NART book will be out in September, too, so you have to take Veloce's publication dates with a grain of salt.
