The Florida Twelve Hour Grand Prix of Endurance
    Sebring, 24th March, 1956

Caption: The victory of the Fangio-Castellotti team was largely the work of the young Italian. Fangio, feeling unwell, had handed the car over to him for the last hours of the race. The 3422 c.c. four-cylinder Ferrari covered a distance of 1008.72 miles in twelve hours and put up a new record by doing twelve more laps than the winning Jaguar in 1955.

    The XXIIIrd Mille Miglia
    April 28-29, 1956

Caption: A fine colour study which catches the typical atmosphere of so many Mille Miglias. Rain pelting from a leaden sky, spectators huddled together under umbrellas, and a brilliantly coloured car, headlamps blazing, as it roars on towards the finish at the end of the long day. The car is Collins's Ferrari, taking second place in the XXIIIrd Mille Miglia with photographer and journalist Louis Klemantaski acting as navigator.

Caption: Eugenio Castellotti presses on over the Futa Pass, on a road streaming with water. Gaining his victory by a great show of daring and stamina, Ascari's pupil staked his claim for inclusion amongst the great drivers of today. He was in the lead for practically the whole of the race and covered the 992.33 miles at an average speed of 85.412 m.p.h. Although this was 1.29'22" longer than the time taken by Moss in 1955, it is still a magnificent achievement when one takes into account the terrible weather in which the race was run.

Caption: Driving a 3-litre Ferrari 250, the Gendebien-Washer team took first place in the Production Grand Touring category at an average of 79.38 m.p.h. They waged an unceasing battle against the 300 SL Mercedes' and, after 12.30' racing their lead over the nearest competitor was only 6'40".

Caption: Fangio does not like the Mille Miglia but still runs in it year after year, hoping for a victory which continues to elude him. The slippery roads and a loose bonnet explain the anxiety on his face.

Caption: Fangio, aware of the tough nature of the circuit, drove a cautious race, sparing his car. In the end, however, together with his co-driver Castellotti, they were unable to resist the onslaught off the Franco-British team of Behra-Moss and had to content themselves with 2nd place.

Caption: One half of the cars which started in this race were unable to complete the required 153 laps of the circuit. Of the three cars in the photograph below, only the Ferrari driven by Trintignant (No. 3) will finish the race. Flockhart's Jaguar (No. 15) will be eliminated on the 95th lap, and Castellotti's Ferrari (No. 4) will retire at three-quarters distance with engine trouble.

And on this rather entertaining note my coverage of 1956 ends, I'll soon be back to complete what I started with the 1959 season.

I'm afraid I do not, I'm merely someone that has the means to digitize these images. Ronnieb seems to have a good link to get started with and perhaps there's someone better versed in these cars that can help out?
