But does a soft drink company need constant exposure in so many sports and different markets? That is the question. Red Bull looks like dominating the energy drink market, worldwide.

All these various sponsoring budgets go in the expense account on the balance sheet, and help to lower the tax liabilities. Maybe governments need to have a look at that?

The RB market styles itself on being hip. You have market actively or they'll move on.

Not really, but instead of constantly inventing new taxes (on this side of the Atlantic at least) to balance the books, maybe governments should take a good look at tax avoidance (synonym for tax evasion) and examine the account of multinationals.

I know of several people who finance their hobbies on their company accoount by passing it as "advertising". In not so many words, they are partly sponsored by other taxpayers.

Monotonically increasing to two laps by the end of the race :) ;) Or, is it only 1 lap by now? Can't tell, I think the broadcast has ended by the time they cross the finish line, if they do... Ok, sorry, couldn't help it, apologies and sympathies to the McLaren fans for what you have to endure during these trying times!

They aren't behind- they're right in front of Kimi, albeit not on the same lap.

They sell water with sugar, they don't need to invest a lot in research and development. And they're loosing market share.

I see McLaren are now saying that they are going to start ramping up their engine power and performance from Bahrain onwards, and Fernando Alonso has stated that he believes the days of McLaren being lapped will soon become a thing of the past.

So it looks as though Alonso is expecting to have reliability issues due to the additional power take him out of the race before he can be lapped from now on then! :p

There's a new statue saluting McLaren's success on display this weekend in Bahrain.

    It's Jenson Button's car. :)

Wonder who was first to contact the other between Mac and Honda regarding their current venture and who are regretting it more. My guess, Dennis contacted them and Honda are already regretting it as a bad PR exercise. They'll improve for sure, probably up to beat Ferrari, but I could as well see Honda giving them the middle finger and leaving F1 for good.

Not sure about that as they are making quick and good improvements each meeting so at the moment other than starting poorly they are not looking like idiots any more IMO.

We'll see in the race about that but sure Honda is feeling the pressure more than mcLaren imo.
They're actually paying McLaren who couldn't even get a main sponsor, probably paying Alonso, who is instead used to bring money over, and getting all the bad press.
McLaren are in for the ride and used by now to be at the back, instead.
They'll improve but bet Honda are regretting now the day Dennis called them to propose this venture. If it went this way, as I think it did.
Why would Honda have called them first?

+1, they found another .7 this weekend to the front. They will be in q3 sooner than later. I'd predict them regularly beating Williams by the end of the season if not battling for podiums. They've made huge progress in a short time and have two outstanding drivers. Button is again showing his mettle as he's matched or beaten every teammate he's had and has been right there with Alonso, if not a little quicker.

Call me crazy but next year I see them battling Ferrari for top honors, with MB on the slide.

It's getting harder and harder to find more time though.

I have little doubt they'll continue to improve but fighting for podiums this year I just find too optimistic.

    Me too.
The upside of being so far behind is that there's so much more room for improvement. Particularly when you're Honda and Macca.

Alonso's car lost a lot of pace near the end of Bahrain though, possibly misfiring ...

Was interesting to see him unlap himself so their is pace there.
