Where did all the 355GTS and 355B's go?

Can a 575 guy chime in here?
The 355 GTB/GTS is the hottest looking rear engine Ferrari that has come about since the 458.
I dont want to get flamed by the 360/430 guys but is just my opinion.
I am still in love with these cars. For the members that have them..keep them!

 

indeed just an observation, that the recall was not done on this car..

as it seems there are likely alot of cars out there without it done.. and likley will not be an issue.

when I bought my 1997 GTB it was not done either..
this recall was not a "defect", it was a preventative upgrade to the fuel lines..

actually just got mine done at the dealer this past thursday...
now that its done, I like the look, alot cleaner.

I think there's a big long thread on that one. Too long for me to read to figure out why it's not a good car.

 

The problem is with the seller, not the car.

 

I sometimes wonder why the seller bothers to keep posting ads if he cannot convince people to buy his car.

Contact the seller and see how it goes. Also, I don't think anyone is saying F1 transmission cars are selling for above $100k. It is specific to 3 pedal GTB/S cars.

Ferrari is making 7,000 plus F1 cars a year and has been for the past 5 years. They will continue to make that many F1 transmission cars a year going forward. We all know they are not making any manual gated 3 pedal cars anymore. The gap between gated cars and F1 cars will continue to widen with time from this simple fact alone.

 

I need to disagree with you a bit on that one. Having just bought a car I had the choice between a gated and F1 car. Two almost identical cars in CA 100 miles apart, with identical mileage and almost identical asking prices. The F1 car was in a little nicer condition but the gated just had a major. Marshall Goldman also just had a gated and F1 at the same time and the prices were very close.

I drove the gated and did not like it one bit. The shifting felt "clanky" to me. It wasn't a smooth drive. I just got the F1 on the road after the major and it has the feel of a race car. Maybe it's because I'm used to the F1 in my last Ferrari and current Lamborghini, but I don't like the feel of the gated car one bit and my recent shopping experience didn't show any meaningful price difference.

 

That car has been for sale for quite awhile. I am not saying that they are worth 100k+, but this car has a nice long long thread on it. It maybe ok, but I would proceed with a lot of caution.

Performance Auto Wholesalers has two cars. Both are 97's. One is a Berlinetta and the other is a GTS.

 

This car looks like a top of market car to me. Just went to look at it. Its at the former RUF dealer regarded as the second best Fcar shop in Dallas. They just finished a full service including valve guides. This car should come close to setting the top of the market.

 

Any idea what they are asking for it now?

 

I don't think there is as much a spread on prices of spiders with different transmissions.

There may be more of a difference on the berlinettas because of supply vs demand. There really is a different market at work on GTS and berlinettas vs spiders.

I think both transmissions are fun and both can be very smooth depending on your adjustments and proper Maint.

Some guys love one or the other for a specific reason and search specifically for that.

The F1 GTS is a rare bird with only 500 made.

Seeing the low production numbers of those cars on display in Maranello reinforces what buyers will pay more for in the future.

But for me, it will always be a gated '95 in any of the configurations.

Like many have said. They are not making them anymore and are wanted...

I love the clanking/squeaking gated shifter.

Pulling gears aint supposed to be easy!

 

There are few enough B/GTS on the market to make transmission choice a wash. Like gobble's experience, most of us will choose based on condition and an F1 won't be a deal killer.

I sure wish I could play around with someone's gated shifter, though. I had a few minutes sitting in a MT F355, and rowing the shifter was definitely not like a typical gear lever. Plus it looked sinfully beautiful.

I thought this one sold a couple months ago? When I was in the hunt, this was one I saw out there.

But got lucky with mine and picked up before word got out! Woosh

 

Isn't this always the case, GTB, GTS or spider? You look at a car with 5k miles and one owner at $110k or and say, "See, I told you so." But point to a not so perfect car that's at $60k and it's, "Oh, that car is a POS." You can do the same with spiders. There is a one owner, < 5k miles spider offered for $105k. Spider prices work their way down form there, as to GTB and GTS. Apparently the lack of GTB and GTS has not pushed their prices significantly above those of similar quality Spiders. Prices are up but it has very little to do with model. It's more about quality and demand for Ferraris. Heck, a 1995 spider with 55k mile on it sold today at B-J for $73.7k. (Don't know if that's all in or high bid). Two others in not as good shape sold for $55k and $59.4k.

 

I had several offered to me this week alone behind closed doors at very fair prices, did I get 1 or 2?

I have both F1 and gated cars as I love them both, but I think any Ferrari gated shifter guy will tell you that the clanking and banging on the shifter gate is an integral part of the love for the gated experience.

That was precisely the reason why I decided to jump head first on a deal for my 355 F1 GTS. Love that so few ever left the production line!

Exactly right, Moe! Although I also believe transmission type shouldn't be a deal killer regardless of model, particularly when talking about something as glorious as a 355!

But given that some of these cars are hard to find nowadays- it's lucky a thing to find what you want, let alone be transmission choosy

That's what I'm finding at least in my own experience...

 

I had an f1 and now a 6 speed. F1 is amazing because you don't have to worry about mis shifts ....redlining every gear is perfection. However, you start to miss the third pedal. Mine was bullet proof i would love to have both in a perfect world. 355 f1 is a Piece of history first production car with paddle shift gear box.

 

In the F355 Challenge Arcade game, the F1 transmission option was considered "Intermediate," whereas the Manual transmission option was considered "Advanced."
