    Give me a break.

When I paid large sums of money to experience the "real F1" simulator at the Ferrari factory last year, there wasn't a silly aluminium trunk with a knob anywhere to be seen.

You dinosaurs can reminisce all you want, but the truth is that the real race car experience hasn't involved three pedals for the best part of twenty years.

    Get over it. :)

I like the nostalgia of the gated 6 speed, but enjoy the F1 immensely. There's no question the F1 is the better option if pure performance is what you're looking for, but those that enjoy rowing gears aren't going for that anyway.

My ideal garage would have one of each. :)

If we dinosaurs were to race a car with you, then we would pay for the F1. On the other hand, we dinosaurs, just like to enjoy shifting our own gears on a Sunday morning drive, then we rather have the manual gear box.

F1 and its problems is a deal killer for me, instantly, everytime, everyday, on every car.

The Nascar I drove had 3 pedals (I think they all do). Not that I'm a fan of that type of racing but I do believe it's considered "real".

Right. 4-speed manual transmissions in those cars. But once underway, they don't bother using the clutch.

    And yes, it's "real" alright...

It looks pretty easy, doesn't it? Think you can drive a car 200 mph closer together than most people park?

How many speeds did your F1 have?

Alright, alright... everyone should know by now I'm doing this for fun as much as anything.
It's obviously a losing battle on this forum, if not in real life.

    AAAAAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAAAAAA!

Nascar. The vehicular equivalent of biplanes flying around a couple of poles.

Knitting sweaters also takes skill yet it's somehow more entertaining to watch than Nascar and I still don't care to learn how it's done. ;)

Cheers. We have "V8 Supercars" over here. Also known as "racing taxis".
Actually a pretty decent race series, but not exactly something I'd like Ferrari to aspire to.

    Keep on truckin'!

V8 Supercars is an awesome thing to watch, lots of crashes and dirty racing. Have only seen one race on TV here in the States but it was very cool imo.

Well, lets' see 43 F1 cars on an oval doing 200mph, 2 and 3 abreast for 500 miles. I love F1 but it really just a follow the leader show unless some one has a problem. I like the IMSA Tudor series the best. Love my Ferraris but I have to say I love seeing American muscle take out the Euro crap.

I agree. My '95 355 Spider and '97 355 Berlinetta are both gated (how I ended up with two F355s is another story for another day) and although I wasn't completely sure before I bought them, as I had not had a stick shift car in 40 years and I already had an F1 paddle trans in my Maserati Quattroporte (with an upgrade shift module from Formula Dynamics), I quickly found that manually moving through the gears is much more fun and "connected" than the F1 experience. I'm very happy with the stick.
