It does seem odd that someone paid for a title renewal every year and took it through a safety inspection (according to the Carfax) but didn't drive it. A friend of mine bought some RUF speedster from these guys a number of years ago and had a decent experience apart from the shipper they hired.
i saw this car about 3 months ago when my buddy went there to shop for a 911. I saw it sitting in the back of their facilty. I went to look at it and actually felt sorry for it. To say it was a project car would be an understatement. The engine was out of it. Cosmetically, inside and out, was awful. For 5k miles, it look liked a hard 100k. Maybe it was barn find, maybe not. These guys are not Ferrari guys so I would be very cautious. One thing for sure is that it has done a complete 180 since I saw it.
Exactly what I suspected. A garage queen deluxe. As I said - a hotshot dealer trying to make big bucks and whip up the market single-handedly.
I don't see what the issue is here... The car hasn't been on the road for 15 years. It was likely sitting, unloved, dirty, with sticky parts. The dealer buys it, basically restores it to as new condition, and is now selling an ultra low mileage 355 Berlinetta (a quite desirable car). They list the $30k in repairs they did to bring it back. Major service, clutch job, sticky refinish, new brakes, new tires etc etc. "A hotshot dealer". Come on. They've got a gem of a car, and a pretty rare one at that. They invested their time and money into bringing her back. I don't see why some have an axe to grind on this car...
Are you still doubting the actual mileage, or did you see my post which noted the car hadn't been driven or registered since 99 per the inspection sticker? Not trying to start a fight, just wanting to better understands everyone's perspective.
Everything would be sticky. Nos parts are sticky. Brakes/clutch could be stuck/corroded from sitting.
I think it is fair to want transparency, but unfortunately, you will normally never know what the car was last purchased for or what profit is really involved. It is a market driven economy and they will only get what one person is willing to pay. There are plenty of individuals trying to make money off of auto and real estate sales / flips. Just look at the number of shows on tv like the guys at gas monkey or those fixing up houses just in SoCal. They are cheered on with good ratings. If it is a nice car (now) then it will sell for the going rate, which (now) is up, up, up. No one is suggesting that a $60,000 F355 Berlinetta is a piece of crap, because good cars come in all prices, but the word is out, so more and more, nice cars are edging way up and all you are left with is cars (in serious need) down in that range, which we all agree we are not used to hearing. Value threads always get people riled up. It is so dependent on one's own sense of value. I would not buy a dress shirt for $100. Others wouldn't ever pay less than that. Some wouldn't want to buy or wear any watch less than $5000... Others wouldn't buy anything more than a Casio. Some will drive ten miles to save a nickle a gallon on gas... You get the idea. Takes all kinds and it's all good. This looks like it is (now) a great car. Robb
LOL. Post of the day. All good in our world. You know crazier things happening in the land of Ferrari. $100,000 plus 308's are hard to get my head around. $250,000 911's harder still, with how many they made... Maybe because I've owned both models. Happy Monday! Robb
Guys - I neglected to see the two words "valve job" in the sellers ad. My apologies to the community. Certainly I would like to know what this "valve job" was and who did it. But I was operating under the assumption that the head job was *not* done.
What does "timing and valve job" mean? I read that to be adjusting the valves, not replacing the valve guides.
Just because compman is new (as am I) doesn't mean we're stupid. If a car is being flipped, it doesn't necessarily mean it's bad, but your PPI should be three times as thorough. Did the $30K repair do all the important "while we're in there" jobs, or were just enough done to look good? If the $30K was spent at a known shop, I might consider a car like this, but since this dealer is not "a Ferrari guy", it's time to CYA.
RAC has a fantastic reputation in both Prosche and Ferrari circles. This isn't some maw and Pop operation.
Agreed RAC is not some 2-bit joint. If I had a P car, I wouldn't think twice to take it there for service. A Ferrari on the other hand, I just don't know (Especially when Norwood Performance is literally down the street ). When I asked how long they had the F355, the response was "a long time". I asked them to give me more information/ detail on it, as I would be willing to to take it on as a project car ( for the cosmetics) for the right price. I never heard back. If y'all say they are good with F cars, then I have no reason to think otherwise other than the gut feel I had on this specific car.
I hate it when these 355's are presented for sale missing the right side engine bay cover. Makes the car look neglected.
You are late to the party on that car by about a week... See other threads. Nice looking. I love the car. Robb
