    Dear All

I have searched the forum for answers to certain queries I have on the abovementioned topic but I do not think these have been addressed previously.

I have a standard steering wheel for my 2010 458 and I would like to upgrade this to a carbon steering wheel with LEDs. I note that these wheels are sometimes available for sale on ebay and some other Ferrari parts retailers.

The questions I have are these - is it easy to install the carbon steering wheel such that the LEDs work properly? I was told by someone that one needs to install certain software that is only available from the factory. If this is true, would the factory only permit authorised dealers to install the carbon wheel? Also, do these wheels work universally, i.e. can wheels installed on US or Japanese F-cars be subsequently installed on one imported into Singapore?

Many thanks for all your opinions in advance.

    Cheers

    CM

should be plug and play just like the scud steering in the regular f430

    from other post

Engine RPM LED on steering wheel (optional)
The five LEDs on the steering wheel rim (available on request)
light up in sequence and inform the driver that the maximum
engine RPM has been reached for gearshifting. When 5500 RPM is
reached, the first LED comes on; the others come on in sequence
    when 6250, 7000, 7750 and 8920 RPM are reached.
The LEDS on the steering wheel can be deactivated using the
MENU screen page on the left TFT display (see page 96): call up
the MENU screen page, select the items “Car setup” and “RPM on
steer” and then select OFF. To reactivate the function, select ON

I just checked my car. Unfortunately, under "Car Setup", there is no "RPM on steer" option. From this, I can only deduce that cars which did not originally specify the carbon steering wheel with LEDs would not be configured for this and that the ECU on my car will have to updated to enable the use of steering wheels with LEDs.

Question is - how does one get the ECU updated? My car is not serviced by the authorised dealer but a specialist mechanic with no ties to the factory.

If anyone has experience retrofitting a carbon steering wheel with LEDs onto a 458, it would be great if you could share your experience on this.

Look for the same Q in the 360 - 430 section ... often posted ... it seems (sometimes) possible but not easy at all ... :)

I checked the 360 / 430 thread and it does seem a very complicated process - the replacement of the "normal" steering wheel with the LED steering wheel.

However, when I checked with Ricambi America, Denis indicated that Ferrari engineered the LED steering wheel for the 458 to be fully "plug and play". And gave me a step by step explanation of the installation process. I must say that Denis was extremely helpful. Thanks very much Denis!!

I just wanted to update anyone who's interested in topic that I managed to secure a used carbon fibre LED steering wheel and had it installed on my 458 without any problems whatsoever. As Denis of Ricambi had indicated, it is fully plug and play. Every single function, including the LED lights, works as intended. Very straightforward compared to guys who tried to install LED steering wheels for the 430.

Just realized i am purchasing a 2013 458 W/O LED on the steering wheel. Is it an expensive swap for the LED steering wheel?

Nice to know it's a fairly simple conversion. I have a 430 and it was not a plug and play install to switch to the LED wheel.

    hello,
I have purchased a carbon led steering wheel for my 2011 ferrari 458. The car was delivered with a non led steering wheel. Can you let me know how to install? Do you need to upgrade the software or is it plug and play?
    Thanks for your help
    Best regards

Plug n play. I had one installed at the dealer as well, and it was a minimal installation fee. Not sure if there needs to be a software upgrade. I don’t think so, because I never had the option to turn the lights off. If it was factory installed, you would have that option.
