    A foil with a cambered shape will produce "lift" and the shape has no "knowledge" of up or down, it does its thing. The car wings are highly cambered and mounted so the lift is produced in a direction towards the earth. The highly curved "bottom" surface produces a lot of downward force and drag. The horizontal tail on a Boeing jet is cambered on the bottom side to produce lift in the "downward" direction to counteract wing nose down pitch. I should go back to bed now and finish my first cup of coffee. Maybe this doesn't make sense.

    The first 25% of chord (or less) is the most important in regards to wing efficiency. Even the best laminar flow wings transition to turbulent flow before that point, which is why Boeing (and Airbus) has vortex generators on their wings to keep the flow attached as long as possible. Even the 787 has vortex generators, albeit fewer than than past airplanes. The airflow on the aft 50% of chord is very turbulent and often detaches during certain flight attitudes. The pylon on the Honda Jet is mounted on the aft 50% of wing chord, where it will have much less influence on wing efficiency, and significantly less influence than an underwing mounted engine with pylon extending fwd of the wing (i.e. most commercial airliners).

    As far as cabin vibration/noise, the wing mounted engine will have less than a aft fuselage mounted engine. Besides distance from cabin, the wing will provide considerable damping.

    Don't think for a minute that Boeing has not studied similar configurations, because they have. They (Boeing and commercial airplanes in general) are also constrained by a different set of operational parameters than personal/corporate aircraft, hence why all we have is a beer can with wings and engines.

    The center engine intake duct on the 727 experienced flow separation where the duct turned downward to feed the number 2 engine. On the first take off we could hear the rapid banging from intake stall. Vortex generators in the throat cured it.

    I also understand that there was a change from round to oval on the center engine intake too. From memory wasn't it the -15 and 17 with the oval?

    They've produced a couple dozen, I think.

    And it took them about half that long to start building cars...
