Here is an actual picture of Northerly Island taken last summer. It will have a Jeanne Gang designed bridge connecting it to the Lucas Museum on the south end. It will be a park with a camp site/band Pavilion and events area. Lucas Museum final design not chosen yet and the NIMBYS are fighting the construction of the museum because they want to "save the Soldier Field park space"(parking lot). I made a mistake on the date for the Pete Brock visit. The Concours d'Elegance of Chicago presents: An Evening with Peter Brock, Designer of the Corvette Sting Ray and the Shelby Daytona Coupe. Thursday April 23rd, 5:30 PM
Pete Brock at the book signing last night looking at a split window Corvette with it's owner. Very nice presentation with a lot of interesting behind the scenes 1950's GM and 1960's Shelby Cobra info. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I heard last weekend that Ferraris on Oak is not happening this year. It has been removed from the FCA website too. I believe FCA is looking for an event downtown to replace it, but has not firmed up the details of a new event yet.
I guess that the Oak St. Organization had historically paid for the event (to barricade the street etc...) and they decided they didn't want to this year.
Just got an email on another event. Here is the latest update with nothing new on that event....... EVENTS 2015 | CENTRAL STATES REGION - FERRARI CLUB OF AMERICA
Next weekend June 26th-28th is the Pirelli World Challenge at Road America: Pirelli World Challenge | Elkhart Lake's Road America, Inc. http://www.world-challenge.com/images/events/Road-America-Entry-List.pdf A lot of sports cars will be racing up there in this series. Almost as good as the former ALMS Tudor series now with every type of sports car you can think of!!
Latest update from the Ferrari Club: "Dear FCA Members, We have had a great season so far with the Art, Literature and Model Expo, Spring Drive to Lake Geneva, Party at Jimmy John's and Track weekend at Gingerman Raceway. We have had to reschedule Sunday's Vintage Event because the lawn at the host location is still soaked from the rains and nobody wants to go mudding in a 4-cam. Thus we have swapped it with the Ferraris and Coffee event formerly on 7/11. All event updates below: Ferraris and Coffee, June 28th (this Sunday!). Meet at the Glen in Glenview at 8:00am on Sunday. Just a good excuse to get your car out for exercise. Ferraris on Oak Street is postponed until 2016.This event has hundreds of moving pieces and there were a few issues that we could not overcome to execute it at the level that was necessary so we are intending to reschedule it for next summer. The Vintage Gathering, July 12th. One of our members is hosting all the pre-1984 Ferrari and European cars at his house in Bannockburn. This is the make-up date from the previously scheduled date of 6/28. The HAWK at Road America, July 16th-19th. Always one of the best motorsports weekends of the year. Ferraris and Coffee, August 8th. Meet at Labriola Bakery in Oak Brook on Saturday, August 8th at 8:00am. Geneva Concours d'Elegance, August 23rd. We will have our normal Ferrari-only parking at Fioras right in the center of the show. Ferrari Festival at the Italian Village, Septermber 13th. One of our best events of the year right on Monroe in the loop. Fall Drive, September 19th. Route TBD. Coffee and Classics, September 27th. Ferrari is the featured marque at this incredible monthly event in downtown Winnetka. We are evaluating ideas for next year right now and welcome any event suggestions or assistance. Should you have any suggestions, please let us know what you have in mind. Greg"
Pirelli Challenge is going on now at Road America. Here are pictures from today. A lot of nice cars. The Bentley is huge even next to a Viper, but still only comes in at 2800lbs in race form. Maserati Challenge is also going on as a support race. I'm here also. Some nice cars and perfect weather for sure. Amazingly, the place is empty! Never seen it like this before. Was also disappointed there is no fan walk on the grid this year. That was one of the highlights for my son and I last year. Still having a great time though.
It looked like a Friday crowd not a Saturday crowd. Funny thing is some of the best races with the best cars I have seen had small crowds. I will never forget the FIA GT1 event at Homestead Florida in 1998 I went to had no more than 20 people on Friday. Wall to wall McLaren, Porsche and Mercedes GT1 factory teams with no one to watch, other than in Europe on TV!!!
Anybody in the Chicago area should check out this military museum on the Illinois/Wisconsin border off Russell Road if you like old airplanes. I took these photos on the way back from Road America today. You can see this from the tollway on the west side. It looks like the Ferraris on Oak was cancelled and replaced with the Bannockburn event. Is this event private, or open to Ferrari enthusiasts who drive lowly Porsches? -Scott
Looks like a good selection of rare cars going up to the Brian Redman historical races at Road America this weekend. A lot of nice historic F1 cars including a few old Ferrari 312's and a 312PB prototype. I see a Sunbeam Tiger Lemans coupe listed, one of 2 built. Also 2 Lotus 79's and a Ford MKIV along with the Can Am and Lola T70's that always seem to be up there. Even BMW owners have a few 3.5CSL's to look at.
Some photos from the Brian Redman historic races at Road America today. I liked the Sunbeam Tiger Lemans coupe and Luigi ETCC 1976 champion BMW 3.2 CSL best. A really bad crash damaged a rare Ferrari 312 1968 F1 car. The driver is ok. On August 8th and 9th the Tudor former ALMS sportscar championship will be up at Road America. Also one I forgot about, the Meadowdale Motorsports car show will be on September 12th at the old Meadowdale race track near Elgin Illinois in Carpentersville. Some of you may have heard of this track that held national sports car racing events until it closed in the late 1960's. Held in Raceway Woods near route 72.
The Tudor sports car series is visiting Road America this weekend. Here are a few pictures from today. Ford had it's new Lemans GT testing on Monday and Tuesday at Road America. People who were there said that the times were competitive with last years Tudor sports car times.
