In the office today I saw a patient who told me a great story. He said his wife used to own a vintage Ferrari that she got in a divorce (prior marriage obviously). He said it was interesting because Phil Hill raced it. He didnt know the model or year but said his wife did. As soon as the visit was over we went out to the waiting room to talk with her. She didn't have much more information about the car but said she sold it around 1974 for a little under $10,000. They arent really car people, but I was intrigued. She said she had some old photos and send them to me. I will attach them. The car was sold in Northern CA. I wonder if anyone has any information about this car. I know its a longshot since I don't have the VIN. However, given the small fraternity of vintage Ferrari owners, I thougt I'd try the braintrust here. The newspaper clipping of the car racing mentions its a 1959 250GT. I may be off but I think it looks like a 1956 250GT Competizione.

I believe this is s/n 0895 GT, a 1958 (not 1959), 250 GT TdF. But I don't have any information about Phil Hill racing it. Is there a date the race took place, mentioned in the newspaper article clipping?

Correct; this is 0895GT. Completed in 1958. No connection to Phil Hill.

Thanks for sharing the photos! Will you also share with us the name of your friends (by PM if necessary)?

I was at that Monterey Historics, and the photo correctly shows how Snider drove the car, almost out of control. We all were concerned about his driving. As I recall, he managed to get himself killed later that year, possibly at the Virginia City Hillclimb.

Originally covered headlights, probably crunched the nose at some point and repaired/converted to open.

That was Jon Baumgartner of Los Altos Hills, CA. Asking price was $70,000. The Baumgartners had this car from 1977.

And she came with a free TdF included! What's not to like?

She would have had proposals from at least half of the Fchat community back in the day :)

I own 0895 and I am not aware of Phil Hill ever having raced it. It makes me think the car in the first picture is a 1959 tdf.

Yes I didn't like those incorrectly done closed headlights either. They have been corrected as part of the restoration and classiche at the factory which is almost done.
