Does anyone have experience with this setup on the 599? It appears to be almost plug and play with the OEM arrangement. How's the sound quality and is there any performance increase. Is it worth the $650 price plus labor to install? Any negatives that you are aware of? - please advise.

The Forza Exhaust controller is $375 and there is documented install guidance for the 599.

Sound is good and same with either the Forza or the Capristo. No performance increase with either, regardless of claims to the contrary.

Thanks for the good advise. Do you know if these 2 systems are basically the same components and do they control the exhaust flappers the in the same fashion? If you were buying, not taking in to consideration the price difference, would you go with the Forza or the Capristo system for the 599? - please advise.

Yes, basically same components. and, yes, control flappers exactly same method.

There are many posts here on the forum comparing the two. Also, there is comparison here ... Exhaust Bypass Valve Controller

scroll down and click tab that says "compare to Capristo"

My advice, from actually installing Steve's kit on my 430 Scuderia is go with his, it is very nicely constructed, and better sealed from the environment compared to Capristo. And I typically love Capristo products, having installed their exhaust and bypass valve on my previous F355 spider.

My local dealer had reliability issues with the Capristo exhaust controllers they installed, and does not recommend them. I steered them to Steves product...not sure if they have tried it yet ;)

I have the Forza on my 599 and could not be happier. It works great! Just FYI when the system is in its "off" mode, it returns to the factory setup- so the flaps will open at some point. I like this since you are not locking the flaps 100% of the time. But when you want it to be louder, you just flick the switch. So far very very pleased with this.

I've locked my valves open and don't find the sound offensive at any rpm at all. Quite the contrary, the car sounds great and people now compliment the car's exhaust note which they never did before. Total cost was $7.99 for two very well made tube pinchers. Mod is completely reversible in 5 min. with a socket wrench. What's not to like?!

Thats how I used to have it, but I installed the Fabspeed secondary cat delete pipes and the sound became a bit too loud for all the time- so now I can have it at louder than stock but not wild loud or wild loud :)

I like being able to go back and forth. To each their own. ;)

Completely understand. When I get my bypass pipes installed, I'll probably be rethinking the remote controller. But for those who want to keep their car original while enjoying a more traditional Ferrari exhaust note, this is a simple, easy and inexpensive way to go.

I really don't seen how the Forza Exhaust Controller is any more "original" or not than your modification. In my installation, all that is visible, with some careful examination is a single black cable running across the most rear portion of the engine compartment..and you have to hunt to find it. Otherwise there is nothing visible. It is also completely reversible in 40 minutes, I can completely remove it. And I have the bonus of "open" exhaust note, or use it as the factory intended at the push of a button.

I agree your mod is simply and inexpensive. But I really don't want loud all the time...on the Scud, valves open is really LOUD. I prefer to revert to normal operation when in my neighborhood or on a long freeway drive.

Oops. I'm afraid I wasn't clear. I like the Forza mod but was thinking about the 599 (not the 355) and what I had read in the Forza literature.

    (homepage)

They start off by saying "Installation on the Ferrari 599 is not as easy as on mid-engine V8 cars, but is very straight forward and results in a very clean install." Frankly, the pictures and description of the installation on the 599 scared me away from making the purchase. It appears it's a very different installation than on the 355.

My comments were not intended to demean the Forza route, just offer an alternative to novices like me who saw the install a little overwhelming.

Cool. Just for clarification, I did the install in my 430 Scuderia...I no longer own a 355. ;)

Just to set your mind at ease about install of the Forza unit on the 599 and other front engine cars ...

On front engine cars like the 599, F12, etc., the vacuum solenoid valve(s) that control the exhaust bypass valves is located in the rear of the car, typically near the exhaust bypass valves. Making the connection is very straightforward as it is easy to trace back the vacuum line to the solenoid valve where it is fairly simple to access the connector(s).

The issue comes when mounting the control unit module. The module has the RF antenna to receive the signal from the remote transmitter to open/close the valves. If you mount the control module under the car's belly pan, there is a likely possibility that the belly pan will shield the RF signal preventing good reception. For this reason, it is recommended that the control module be mounted inside the vehicle ... typically in the boot (trunk). This will generally assure a good RF reception. Now, in order to mount it in the trunk, the control cable to the vacuum solenoid valve must be routed through the belly pan. This requires a hole either be drilled in the belly pan or use an existing hole. Although this sounds severe, it is not a big deal as a rubber grommet then only needs to be installed to protect the cable. If the control unit were to ever be removed, it is an easy manner to plug the hole with a rubber grommet or rubber hole plug. Some RTV can also be used. Several front engine car owners have installed the Forza unit in this way. This includes, 599, F12, FF, California and Maserati.

    Regards,

    Steve
