I felt it was the frat boys taking over more concerned about how pretty they look with their car and not real enthusiasts.
As with any public place there are a mix of people but many good people still here that need good advice and even I need to get spalled back in place every once and a while! I really respect Brian as after working on Fcars all day he still looks around here and adds content when needed. Its not only here but every day the older you get the more jaded it seems the outlook on the world becomes but there is still hope as long as the Ferrari is running!!!!
Well the more people that can afford to own (and actually drive) an older Ferrari, because maybe they plan on learning how to do some of the work themselves, the more business there will also be for the pros/experts, that make their living at it....
Here's my ever growing collection of 308 compatible oil filters...what do you think...(got the WIX for a few dollars when I bought some oil at rhe local Auto store)... Some of the listed features are..."High Performance Anti-Drainback Valve", and "Safety By-Pass Valve".... (I call them my Red-White-and Blue All-American 308 Oil Filter Lineup...colors may vary based on availability etc....) ... Image Unavailable, Please Login
The Baldwin is the only compatible one for a 308. Fit does not equal compatibility I don't really care what some of the really stupid internet experts here say.
Nothing like the public places I frequent. I grew up in Oakland and in the heart of the ghetto I found greater civility than this place. I'll wake up some morning soon and just say **** it and leave.
I would respectfully disagree...I've been frequenting BBSs and Forums since the early 90's...and my comment would be, that, so far anyway, this forum is the *most* civilized that I've seen so far...(IMHO).... PS I started in South Chicago in a pull behind the car trailer by the Oil Refinery...then graduated to a three flat by the Steel Mill Slag heaps etc. etc...
The world would be a wonderful place and society a pleasure......... if it just weren't for all those damn people ! (the internet just amplifies that paradigm)
That's a complex question...(I have been in Corporate work environments that were IMHO *much* worse than any online forum though)...I'll just say that I haven't been here very long...so, I will defer for now to your superior wisdom in this case...and sometime later form a full opinion of my own.... Edit: So far people here have been very friendly and treated me very well here...and I have indeed been trying to learn a lot...including what gear oil I would use, which I'm following your advice on etc....
I'm not sure...here's a scan of the box...(hope all the stuff is readable)... ... Image Unavailable, Please Login
Here's a Wix teardown: https://youtu.be/3mnAeiip3QQ No standpipe. No standpipe in the cutaway diagram above either. Some words in the video about the downside of putting the pressure relief in the end cap vs. near the base plate. Thanks, GF
There is also a bosch filter, but I can't remember the number off hand. I have a couple on the shelf. I stick to the UFI stuff myself.
do the "dry sump' oil systems and filtering differ? is the oil sucked by the mechanical engine pump thru the filter into the engine galleries like a conventional oil system?
Common guys there is only one choice here, the Baldwin is head and shoulders above all including the UFI. They are made tough and heavy duty. Whatever you use dont use a Fram or those other ones. Ferrari oil pressures are very high compared to regular cars. And dont piss Brian off when I screw up something Ill/we will need his expert advice! :0 Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Wow I should buy that from you for my museum! That is cool I never saw one like that before! I hope that went the last one on your car! HAA Do you have a new one like that! Rob who has a filter collection!
It's from 20 years ago...and says EASY CHANGE OIL FILTER in English on the other side in big letters...(I'll have to look in my shed someday in the bottom boxes to see if I have any more...maybe yes, maybe no)...I'm holding onto it for now...but if you still want it in the future, I'll keep you in mind...(maybe used ones like this are still easy to find anyway, who knows)....
I only collect the best unused filters! HA I even have a rare UFI that was recalled as they blew gaskets as the retaining channel was revised or something to that effect! I used to have a light shinning on it till I got the red baldwin Ferrari one!!! Image Unavailable, Please Login
