That's what's so frustrating about this situation. I almost went with the Corvette siren, but decided to spend the extra $300 smackaroos to be sure to have an alarm that goes off when it's supposed to.

That thunk sound is me hitting a dead-end. The SD1 scan I posted was done for me by Craig at no extra cost, but the car is now up here in WA state. I suspect with the new siren installed, that red SD 'Disconnect' light is out, but don't know. The main car battery is fully charged, lives on a Battery Minder.

There is one way, I just got off the 'phone with Ferrari of Seattle and they will do a SD2 scan for me for a few hundred bucks. That AutoEnginuity scanner is looking better.....

Wil- I was talking about the siren batteries, not your 550's battery. They are often discharged when first installed.

Your package went out this morning.

Taz, yes, I got that in your msg. I just mentioned I was keeping the car battery up in passing. The siren battery is charging overnight for the first time tonight, I had the main battery switch off last night to reset the ECUs.

Anther data point, the bloody siren went off right in my hands while I was setting it up, so I thought I'd shut it up by disconnecting the cable--nope, kept howling all by itself. I didn't have a stake to drive through its heart, so I re-hooked it up and got it to shut up with the fob. Guess the siren batteries had at least some juice in them.

Should of just bought a Corvette siren......

Sorry, still learning about going from 'Quick Reply' to 'Go Advanced' in my replies.

575Maranello, how did you 'read the date' on this new Ferrari siren? Thanks, Wil

The pict you posted shows 14/3/14 printed on the siren. I believe that translates to March 14, 2014. Kind of hard to see. Please correct me if I am wrong.

I think you might be right. The entire row of numbers in that area says "21 24 04/03/14". I was thrown off by the '21 24', don't know what those are.

I have fixed a few and I sure don't come to that conclusion.

    Apples and oranges.

If you look at the screen there is an error for a dead siren battery and it is out. The no communication light is on and the siren circuit disconnected light is on. Whoever diagnosed that as a dead battery was wrong.

The machine is telling everyone what to look for and it is just being ignored.

Brian, you are right. It took a day or two for what you said before to percolate through. For the past couple of days I've been tracing out the alarm circuit in Section N "Alarm System Diagram" (1996) wiring diagram. Hoo-boy, I'm used to vintage Ferrari wiring diagrams (e.g., a C/4 diagram is a thing of beauty and quite accurate to boot), but this entirely different presentation is unsettling. I want to see where all the wires go at once. Sorry, digressing.

On 550 diagrams, I think that a "Cable multiplying" (CM) is just a junction board/connector, but none of them are shown in the "Cable Location" diagrams. Tracing the red siren wire (R-1) to the Positive Terminal Cable Board (165) should be easy. Same for the green/black siren wire (VN-0.5) that goes through Connector 276 and onto Pin B20 of the alarm ecu (160). I have to hope the black siren wire (N-1) that goes through Connector 276, through CM-227 and onto *four* other destinations (277 A-21, 282 B-9, 160 C-4, 266 A-2) has continuity from one end point to the other. If it doesn't, how the heck do I check CM-227 that is between it? I'm hoping N-1 is just chassis ground and CM-227 spreads that ground around. Plus I was reading in another older thread where you mentioned that the 550 wiring diagrams in particular are inaccurate to the point of near uselessness.

Haven't actually traced any of the three siren wires out yet, but hope to get to it soon. At least I have a starting point now. Thanks for any advice you might want to give.

Cable connector is a crimp connector located anywhere in the harness. No way to tell where except to start cutting the harness open.

They are a real source of trouble.

Black wires are either a ground or a wire related to the alarm/immobilized system that they are trying to obfuscate the purpose of.
