Hi, I too found it confusing as it is in their list of past sales. I think they sold it last year. Are they just using it as an advert of what they've done in the past as you say it's not in the list. Bal
Yes I noticed a couple of days ago that it is not in the catalog. It either got sold ahead of the auction or the seller changed his mind. Coys can be chaotic but they would not have used a photos of it if it was not actually scheduled to be auctioned at some point. Richard good for you, magazine editors can be hellacious to deal with -not to mention rude- which is why after 23 years of writing I am concentrating on books and brokerage with the exception of a small handful of very special history test drive articles. Best regards, Marc
Exhaust pattern: Does anyone have one? I need a new exhaust from the headers back, and can have it made from stainless locally without problem, also avoiding shipping a heavy exhaust in from overseas. The problem, however, is that my exhaust is not original, so I have nothing to copy from. Luckily my headers are in great shape. Best, Jack.
Hello All.. I apologize, but this post will not be about K's or even Masers. But since we have some folks from Norway who participate in all the threads, I think it is worth mentioning. My wife and I just returned from a 2+ week trip to Iceland, Denmark, and Norway. Iceland was positively beautiful. The 4 days we spent there were wonderful. So much to see with some spectacular sights along with fabulous weather. After that we traveled to Copenhagen and spent 2 great days in the city. Very much alive, with more bicycles than I have probably ever seen in my life! From Copenhagen, we got on a cruise ship to visit some of the fjords of Norway! We visited Stavanger, Bergen, Alesund, and finally Geiranger.. My two favorites were Bergen and Geiranger. In Bergen, we took the floibanen and saw some spectacular views of the city and surrounding areas! Absolutely beautiful!! However, my favorite was Geiranger. What a magnificent fjord. Every place we looked there was the most magnificent scenery I think I have ever seen! This is certainly one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen.. If you ever have the opportunity to visit any of these places, I strongly urge you to do so!! Mike
Yes this must be true, your enthusiasm is not surprising, this is a thought shared by many people who visited Norway I think. But for bicycles I, living in Holland, don´t have to go to Copenhagen, we have a lot of them in our own country. We also have separate lanes for them in most parts of the country. So you can drive your Khamsin (yes there it is, Khamsin thread! ) with a safe distance from this slower traffic in most cases.
Hi, Mike There are som truly spectacular sights to be seen in our country, and I would suggest that you bring you Khamsin on your next visit. I have had the pleasure of driving a Khamsin from Molde to Oslo (or close to Oslo), and have toured most of the country in my former Alfa Romeo 1750 GTV. Just take the alternative routes on the map, note that the speed limits is in km/h not mph and respect them...occationally...and prepare for expensive hotels and fuel. The food can be a serious downer, so do some research before you go. Yeah, take the sports car and leave the camping van. Everyone hates camping vans Helge
I, too, was recently in Holland (Amsterdam) and was amazed by the number of bicycles in use. Also, very few people wearing helmets. What a relief. In the USA, we are so hyper obsessed with "safety" that we have forgotten the joy of riding a bike unencumbered with the world world rushing by....
The owner's manual simply instructs to measure the valve openings to be measured on the valves. That's fine, but I do not find the angle between the valves anywhere, and in order to do accurate measurements, the plungers of the dial-gauge indicators need to be parallel with the valves. In order to achieve this, I need to make 2 things: 1) a bracket to hold the dial indicators to a fixed point, likely to be the bearing-cap studs, 2) and L-shaped foot for the plunger of the indicator, as the cam-follower cannot be reached with the measuring instrument in place. So, does anyone have a figure for the angle between the valves? Does anyone have a picture of the gauges in plave other than the drawing in the owner's manual? Thanks! Jack.
You are right Helge, take your classic car to Norway and drive the roads in the areas around Geiranger. Two years ago I was there in Khamsin US1000. http://www.kimm.no/lazzaroni/2013/gdw13-1100px-43.jpg Picture belongs to Kimm.no Regards Marius
Hi Jack The original exhaust is a variety of inconel steel. and is proably heavier than yours, The sound a Khamsin makes is due to the material they are made from. The rear mufflers are 2mm+ thick and with heat shields I needed trolley jack to install them!! Graeme
This should probably go in the Model section of Fchat but https://xb114.secure.ne.jp/~xb114003/newkittop.htm I buy scales of all the special car I have owned and paint them in the colour scheme and I would like to built one of these has anyone bought / built one,and where did they get it from?
Hi Graeme! Models certainly belong here and have been discussed many times. Your link shows a 1/24 scale K to be assembled, who has the time for that? As a kid I used to put paint everywhere but on the car LOL! Funny timing because I had been meaning to post that Minichamps, who I called in 2011 about making a limited run for KHAMSIN QUARANTA only to be told that "Nein ve Kould onlhy dho zat Khamzeen if yu buy 8000 of zem ya?" he must have been a 911 Taliban fundamentalist:-( have now decided to produce the Khamsin in 1/18th scale! I am not involved in any way. Maserati Khamsin 1977 braun met. 1:18 Minichamps - Oldtimermodelle It says you can preorder, they will be available from November. This is fantastic, I had been waiting for that forever. It will be possible to pay an independent specialist to repaint one in the color of your car (though these chaps moan about 1/18 scale cars being difficult to dissassemble/reassemble for painting due to the way they are built but you just have to motivate them) and I fully intend to have them in several colors. Apparently they will make Bora and other models in 1/18 scale too. Here is the page I created in my site about K models 10 years ago, still hope to buy the Milanese wooden one eventually. http://www.maseratikhamsinregistry.com/models_2.html Thankfully it is a bit obsolete, there has been some progress, you have to add the 1/43 scale Minichamps and the 1/64 scale available in silver black and gold easy to find on Ebay. Best regards, Marc
Hi Graeme, Thanks for that advice. The only thing I could retain of the current system are the headers, which are fine, and the bends through the IRS, with the insulation, which have survived. None of the dampers are original. If a pattern is not available, I'll have to order the lot from overseas. Going to the garage now to take the cams off again and measure the valve-angle... Best, Jack.
Hi Jack Is the engine in the car or in a stand? The factory method of measuring cam lift I found to be the most accurate. Cheers Graeme
Great news! thanks Marc. I just found they make a 43 scale in red so I bought one. I would like to d a pre order but will wait for a bit. I wounder if its worth doing a group order? Regards Graeme
Rather off topic but I thought it was worth a quick note and I cannot remember If a posted this but. What do you replace a car like the Khamsin with, In my case I will be honest I have always hankered after a V12 well I replaced it with another 2+2 that has very similar features to the Khamsin, very pretty front engine, 50/50 weight balance, quick steering, but with all the things a developed Khamsin would have , 6 speed gearbox, another 100Plus HP and better air. But also has some quirks of its own. Hydraulic self leveling rear suspension.. Here is the answer.. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hello Marc One Khamsin seems to stay in the US and is yellow, one of your favourite Colors; have you seen the Pictures of it in ebay-garage? I think it could be 1118 or do you think it is an all new discovery ? 1977*Maserati*Khamsin Regards, Roger
I could not agree more with your choice of Khamsin replacment. After 25 years of car collecting looking for the perfect Gran Turismo I think the Khamsin ticks all the right boxes for a 'classic" GT. I recently bought a 456GT myself, this is really the ultimate 90ies Gran Turismo. Buy one, they are almost criminally cheap, not long anymore! Hello Roger and many thanks! I had been in touch with the owner of 1118 see photo in the late 90's or early 2000's before I started the registry and had it confused with 1160, (another US car which was yellow for a while and which is now being restored in Europe; the current owner has posted here recently). I had not had any news of this one since then so great to hear about it coming out of the woodwork: one of the satisfactions of running a registry is finding just what you dream of and finding a yellow one (a color only available to the US market) tucked away in the US has always been a dream of mine, it has happened a couple of times already and now again Will find out this week what its original colors were. Hi Greame, The engine is in the car, with the car on stands. My back doesn't like it much! I've been over-thinking this in my chair rather than just doing it. Best, Jack.
