Planning to pick up the car from the dealer and drive it back home (1200 miles) in one straight shot. Think the car can make it? I think it would be a great trip! Something I did 10 years ago when I picked up my Porsche Turbo from Houston and driving it back to Seattle via Vegas! Or just have it shipped in enclosed truck? That would be boring but save the miles on the car. Would love your thoughts on this!
Well you will be tempted to do speeding. The car is very tempting when its see a staight empty road 😊
Do you think straight 1200 miles in 24 hours will harm the engine? We'll take a lot of breaks in between to give it breather but I don't think it will stress the engine out.
Drive it! In fact set your trip up to do a trackday at Laguna Seca on the way home. You only live once do it well.
If you have the time you really should do it. It would actually be very good for the car and...you! When you get her home you will be very well acquainted!
Why the straight shot. Drive it all the way up HWY 1 from LA and spend a night in SF and another in Eurek. You will remember it for the rest of your life
I've seen Ferraris run the Rolex 24 Hour race at Daytona without issue... Im sure an F430 would handle the drive up to Seattle with no concerns!... do it!!!!
The car will be fine, you however may not be at the end of the journey. I took my 360 and 430 on a few trips up/down the coast of CA, also from the OC and I could go about a 100 miles before my back would ache and I needed to pull over to stretch out and I am a fairly fit person. CA roads are not exactly smooth these days, too much neglect and the 430 suspension, even on the softest suspension setting is still pretty stiff. Good luck with your new car and trip. MB
Think the car can make it? Or just have it shipped in enclosed truck?
Our last Road Trip in our 430 was 4,000 miles (RT from Seattle). The F430 is a very robust car, and yes, it can more than "make it". Never mind the $1200 you will save - there are people reading this that would pay $1200 just to have the experience you will have. Just make a point to stay off of I-5 as much as you can and take two-lane State roads. Speaking from experience ...
Sounds like it's a "ROAD TRIP"! Love the suggestion "LA and spend a night in SF and another in Eurek". Will need to plan it!
Be careful. If you pick up the car in person in CA, don't you owe CA sales tax? Take delivery in OR or Nevada
Duydle, do it. I drove my 360CS back from Portland to San Jose after purchasing it. Not quite 1,200miles, but we (my wife and I) had a great time. We stayed off I-5 and HWY101 the whole time and took three days total. Beautiful country out there, and had quite an adventure in our (then) new car. My wife would love to go on the trip but I have a 4 month old that needs to be fed every 3 hours. Otherwise it would've been perfect! I'm sure I got friends that want dibs on this
Drive it!! The first day with mine was a 500 mile trip home all interstate. A road trip up the coastal highway would have been an awesome ride. These cars are fine. I put over 4K on mine the first year.
I think you pay sales tax when you register the vehicle in your home state. In this case, I would pay WA sales tax. At least I sure hope so...
I would not stay in San Fransisco with my F-Car unless I had some specific recommendations from F-Chatters for car safe and sensible places to house it for the night. There is probably no better time than now to subscribe to F-Chat and use the full power of the place to figure it all out. Your profile is sadly lacking too!
Be careful. If you pick up the car in person in CA, don't you owe CA sales tax? Take delivery in OR or Nevada
As gsholtz correctly said, you owe no sales tax to the state you are departing from - only to the state you will register your newly acquired 430. Which in this case, appears to be WA.
From LA to SF, and if you've seen enough of the coast, I would suggest doing 33N through ojai and the Los Padres forest, then 198, then 25N to hollister, from there you can cut over to the coast if you still want to avoid the 101 I just drove this route 2 weeks ago, your F car will love it.
Drive it!!!!! I did it with my wife (6) six years ago .She flu home KS. and I drove it home to Leawood KS..............Just do it Rob-o
Good point about overnight parking. I've registered years ago but didn't follow the forum much until now. This site is invaluable!
