Great to chat with too - but expect only straight talk when it came to Enzo, she did not mince words !
What a loss. A real pioneer in racing and though I never met her she had a great reputation on and off the track.
I exchanged emails with her a few years ago: very stand up and quality person, not to mention. She didn't really tout her qualities very much, rather mater-of-factual in her manner. Honors were noted by others, which is the way it should be. RIP
Grew up reading her articles, and about her, admiring her, and learning more about her over the years. RIP, Denise.
Sad news indeed. Never had a chance to meet her but have been long time reader of her work. She will be missed, RIP.
Very sad news. She rarely gets credit for the gender barriers she broke through to be a successful driver in the 50s & 60s. Her writing has always been fantastic and honest. I was at the FCA national meet in Dallas a few years ago(don't remember the year) but I had just sat down to dinner at an empty table. A charming older couple walked up and the gentleman asked "would you mind terribly if we joined you?" They introduced themselves as Phil Hill and Denise McCluggage. That was the most memorable and entertaining dinner I've ever had.
This is a very sad notice.....sorry to hear. Still, I can only think of the reunion, on the other side, with her friends, Phil Hill, Maston Gregory, the Rodriguiz brothers.... We have lost a thread to the great ones, gone forever. Rest in Peace, ma'am.
Very nice person. In 59 I went inside her Porsch e on a turn. She decided that her car could do better that my Turner. She spun out. Great times.
