What is the general opinion on the best medium to sell a Ferrari besides FChat -- Cars.com, eBay? Alan
eBay and Autotrader are the best exposure. Everyone looks there. Craigslist is free so doesn't hurt for a little extra exposure for your local market, Or you may consider consigning at a local reputable dealer that deals in exotic and luxury cars. They take trades, have financing and other tools to make the sale easier for buyers in some cases.
You can try Your Exclusive Exotic Car Network - RITEDRIVE to be exclusive. We will generate quality leads and have you on the first page of google for your area.
I listed it on the other Ferrari forum as well. Got emails every couple of months but eventually sold after 6 months or so. Once the buyer came forward however, it went quickly and smoothly.
My 2c... - FChat - FCA - Far less time-wasters on there. - The 'other' Ferrari site - I found that Craigslist attracts tire-kickers and time-wasters no matter what you're selling. Also, Craigslist can create a harsh impression "...if you're too cheap to pay for an ad, then how'd you treat your Ferrari?" Just saying that MIGHT happen - Autotrader not too bad - Cars.com has as many scammers as sellers - FML if you're a member - EBay has great exposure but you could end up with many time-wasters and wannabe's - Dupont Registry - Maybe even try the Porsche site and Lambo site - can't hurt and they are free to join ...just to name a few.
If you can't sell it on FChat then there is something WRONG. Just my opinion. But, I get it if you just don't want to deal with the *enthusiastic* criticism, PPIs, etc. .
I think depending on the car FCHAT is a great place to advertise a car.. need to be straight up about the car and lots of details in the add.. hemmings is also pretty good I have sold many cars on hemmings.. dealer consignment is not bad and then advertise the consignment on Fchat with a link .. the best of both worlds and no hassle of course you lose a percentage.. the correct auction also is good..
Fchat for targeted buyers. Ebay for the exposure. I always found my buyers on Ebay and finished the sale after the auction.
Take it to your nearest dealership and ask if they'll sell it on consignment. If they know the car and have been servicing it for you, it should be no problem...and it would most likely yield the highest return.
I can take it back to Sport Auto where I purchased it on consignment. They charge a flat $2500. FCI charges $500 for a PPI and then 10% on the sale. I am still trying to work a deal for a trade on a new car because I can "save" $4500 but not paying the consignment fee and sales tax on the full value of the car. If that fails then I will try the various options mentioned. Thanks Alan
First and foremost, don't underprice. If you end up needing to consign, you don't want your lowball price showing up on searches. They have software that scours the net for prices associated with VIN's and can tell if you've advertised at a lower price previously. Hit all major advertisers all at once, cars.com, autotrader.com, FML, perhaps even Dupont, get it on Fchat and other sites, do it all at once, consistent price, and most importantly, do a proper photo shoot and description. Mirror what others have done in professional ads from dealerships. I haven't always stuck to this perfectly myself, but IMO this is the right way to move a car quickly and leave yourself a back door to consign if you must.
