Awesome, congratulations! It's beyond cool to see and hear the 612 moving under her own power again. I'm so glad you never gave up!

I just want to say "thank you" again to all of you that have tuned in this past 10 months. I read and enjoyed every one of your posts. And, since the posts came fast and furious at times, as I was also posting fast and furious, I never got the opportunity to respond to everyone directly. But I do appreciate everyone for their inputs and comments, whether I mentioned you by name or not (Oscar music playing now in background)...

So, with that said, let me give a couple first observations:

    1) The 612 really pulls hard and fast. I didn't push it too much as I need to break it in, but it will be exciting.
    2) I was happy to discover I actually have Tubi exhaust boxes on the car. I will say it is much quieter than my QP (which has Larini x-pipe and Tubi mufflers). I may end up being slightly disappointed in the sound relative to my QP but need to spend some more time with it.
    3) If you are really perceptive, you could probably hear the howl of my power steering pump in the video I posted. It has quieted down now as the air has worked its way out of the system.

Tomorrow I plan to get the K40 system (that was already in the car) reinstalled and optimized. Then install front bumper, charge AC, wire back-up camera, and work to get interior and trunk assembled. I may swap out the ABS component first and foremost before going too deep into the rest as this is a priority.

Anyway, I will post as I wrap it up. Windshield, rims, etc.

Will try to get many more nice pics and videos as it comes together.

    - Jason

Well, 39 pages later, and all I can say beside "congrats" is that this has to be one of the best thread on Fchat.

Enjoy the car, you deserve it !

Got the AC system successfully charged today. The compressor (as you may recall from page 5 or so) was blown when I got it. So I had it rebuilt and it held the vacuum I put on it for the last 3 months (which was a good sign) and the AC is nice and chilly now!

Congratulations! I have been following this thread since discovering it several months ago. What an amazing journey you have led us on. Personally, I like knowing how everything on my own car works (which, unfortunately, I can't say is true anymore), so you must have an incredible amount of satisfaction and confidence. Great job and enjoy this car!

Now, what will your next project be?

Congrats! Keep posting pics of the finishing touches.

Would be interested in seeing how you wire up the back up camera for instance. I took my back seats out to get all that wiring feeding from the front unit all the way to the back. There's a couple of feeder holes in the rear bumper, so it's actually possible to do without removing it.

This has made for great reading, and I am glad it has a happy ending! I am embarrassed at how little I work on my car after reading this story. Hope you enjoy your car!

    Thanks guys.

Got the front bumper back on today and the laser jammer all wired up! Front wheel wells in and ready to get the trunk and stuff re-assembled. I will post some pics tomorrow.

Also, I sent the ABS control unit out for servicing. Costs $150 versus a $4K new pump. Hopefully that solves the ABS errors and failure to communicate with the module.

Responding to a couple of questions...

Back-up camera: Yes, I routed the wire feed while I had the interior out of the car. Was able to get it to the trunk, then brought the wire down to the camera via the access holes and then ultimately putting a small notch in one of the license plate lights.

As for next project. Well, it is to launch my new business. Which is auto related. Stay tuned. Oh, and might get a 1989 Lancia 8.32 with a friend of mine to enjoy. Similar car to my Alfa 164 but with the Ferrari 308 motor in it (with some slight differences like cam and crank).

Might be a first? You've made thread of the month twice now. I nominated you again and you won. I'm really glad, boy did you earn it. First time, it was because of your bravery to even attempt this, and gratitude you'd resurrect this gorgeous lady. The second time, what a fantastic drama and conclusion. I really don't see how any thread here will ever surpass this one in my mind. The 612 is such an under-appreciated steed, deserving of so much more love and respect. We're at that point now a decade later when examples are going to just die off due to neglect. What you've done with this one has been in amazing contrast. Were it my colors, I swear, some day if you sold her I'd make an offer BECAUSE of the story, not in spite of it.

This is a common problem I had not heard about until my sister in law had it happen to her MBZ. Intakes mounted in the front of the wheel wells ingested water.

She drove through a shallow puddle last time it rained in Marin Co. and it took out the motor. The shop said that same puddle had taken out many a Marrinite's fancy wheels!

Contrast that to my 85 300 turbo Diesel, that I've used as a Panzer wagon to cross running streams. The water was up over the hood briefly at times but nary a problem. Intake is mounted up high behind the front grill.

Also you've got to be careful of hydrolock from gasoline. Carbureted Ferraris sometime have a float stick and the electric fuel pump fills a cylinder this gas causing an irresistible force to meet an immovable object upon start up- and a bent rod! Happened to a friends C4.

It must be the Fiat DNA... some Dodge/Chrysler cars also have intake snouts down to the bottom of the front bumper. Quite a few were written off because of hydrolock during rainstorms.

I eventually got to the culminating video of the drive-off; after about 15 seconds, my computer stopped. I immediately began to search for a corrupted air intake system gasket, as the likely culprit. Finding that it didn't have one left me at a loss. Then, for some reason, the thing sprang back to life. Did I read the whole thread? Did it leave an impression? Obviously. Thanks for sharing your odyssey, and the well-deserved conclusion. Congratulation; it was a great trip.

Not being a smart aleck, but how can one be careful about this? How would one know that the float had stuck, the cylinder(s) had filled with gas, and starting the car will result in disaster?
