Of course it makes you happy WE won,but so what? The Tesla is quiet and we are make noise. It is an ecological masterpiece and we are polluters. I happen to like our polluter but that's just me. Best QUOTE=U-Boat Commander;143945259]That video makes me happy.
pretty much every Ferrari owner around here in Silicon Valley owns one or even two Tesla Ss...initially all Tesla S drivers were men, now at least 50% are soccer mom types hauling kids in the seven seater version
Finally, a real world run. The media portrayed the Teslas as rockets. Here's a Panamera Turbo S launching past one from a dig: [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4x1nOLAdEtk[/ame]
The Tesla is a rocket for a 5 passenger family sedan, and will ultimately be considered the birth of viable electric autos. But these comparisons to exotic sports cars are just dumb. It would be like comparing a Ferrari to a Camry in terms of ability to fit a baby seat. Yeah, both can do it, but ... At least the Pan Turbo S is somewhat similar to the Tesla. Still stupid to drag either. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
I don't see any of these cars as truly ecological. They all have pollution, its just a question of where it occurs. Tesla is fast from 0 but as the speed increases it isn't as spectacular. People want to compare cars, whether its a Miata and a SUV or these. Just having fun.
if you personally really wanna save the planet, buy only USED high fuel efficiency cars and keep then running for at least 200,000 miles , as the total energy used to source all the raw , create the finished materials and to transport at each step of the way and then assemble the parts has already been expended ....future smarter cars will mean fewer human bonehead caused collisions so cars are more likely to make it to its max lifespan
I think it's just a generalization that people have. Fast cars should be pitted against other fast cars. Period. That's about it. Personally, I don't put a lot of weight on ANY drag races. There are too many variables for a very small glance at a car as a whole. It's the automotive equivalent of a pissing contest, or a "my thing is bigger than your thing" contest. If a relative "underdog" like the Tesla Model S P85D (as much of an "underdog" as you can call a $130k car...) can, in practice, give high end exotics at least a glancing challenge, then it makes for good headlines. That's all. Me? I want both the P85D and the 458. I've driven both... hard! They are VERY different from each other. Would I compare them side by side? Nope - it's not appropriate to me. In a few years, these sorts of comparisons will be irrelevant. It's only "news" right now to people because the P85D is so new, and people think it can challenge The King (the 458). All that said, I would be very happy if my stable included a 458 and a P85D rather than a 360 Spider and an M5.
Having swapped my Tesla 85 for a 458 I completely agree with IDriveM5! Totally different cars. I miss the Tesla I really do, but the battery isn't what they say and when the weather gets cold you can take another 10-15% off its range as well. However range aside, what a machine it was. I entirely agree with the below comment too: If a relative "underdog" like the Tesla Model S P85D (as much of an "underdog" as you can call a $130k car...) can, in practice, give high end exotics at least a glancing challenge, then it makes for good headlines. That's all.
I'm no tree hugger (not that there is anything wrong with that) but I disagree. All cars consume fossil fuels and create pollution during the manufacturing process, but the ICE cars continue to do so whereas an EV obviously does not. Granted not all electricity is cleanly produced, and granted it would take likely hundreds of years to truly have an impact but at least it's as start. Regardless it's an impressive engineering achievement. Plus, Elon Musk is a maniac, in a good way, and just fun to watch. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
I own both a p85d and 458 In my eyes the Tesla is the best luxury car you can buy. Just ordered my wife one also.
That's a bold statement. I think most people would find them to be fairly down market from, for example, a Mercedes S Class or another actual luxury car.
Technically the electrics come with great low speed torque; in principle an IC engine has none at zero RPM, but horsepower, weight, and aerodynamics will tell. As for the electric, OK if you want one. I just don't see why middle class taxpayers should help you pay for it.
Still like it better then any Mercedes. I don't know what you mean as a down market as I paid $125,000. Drive a p85D and all the features and updates over wifi and you will probably agree.
I own a 458 and a P85D and they are both one of the finest in their respective categories. "I just don't see why middle class taxpayers should help you pay for it." How about the 179 deduction for SUVs... tell me why we should be paying for large SUVs with mostly terrible gas mileage. That's been going on for over 10 years. Please!
My pals Bentley was nicer than my 85kw Tesla. I found the plastics to feel a bit cheap and the road noise from the 21s was noisy
As most of the electricity in the US is powered by coal, the Tesla pollutes significantly more than our Ferraris. See this from the Economist: Cleaner than what? | The Economist

Interesting read. Def. a point that is worth mentioning with this technology
But if you pay extra for your electricity you can pretend that your electrons came from a renewable source and feel extremely smug.
I love all those idiots in the comments section of you tube talking about Tesla's single gear. That single gear has a theoretical acceleration of infinity. It is not about gearing, because of the electromagnetic acceleration. I love that the Porsche smoked it. I love that Musk has never made a profit. (Except for environmental credits--a trumped-up way of robbing other car companies.) Tesla . . . a liberal's wet dream.
Good article. This is a point I've been making to friends but most don't want to listen because they want to believe they can be green by buying a product. There are elements of our behavior as a society that truly are vapid.
