I don't see that many 348 TS models for sale. Any thoughts?
No mystery there, simply the supply and demand curve on the turn, hence the prices on the rise for those that do come up. This started happening her in the UK some months ago so probably heading that way in other markets? They're so darned good, a bit of a car world secret, when they find owners they're usually keepers!
As I recall, at any given time, 348s listed for sale were few and farther between when compared to the 355.
All/most Ferraris are skyrocketing, there was a shop in Toronto that had a tech session but they even had this as one of their topics. I wonder why that is.
I think people that own them are getting them sorted out mechanically. Once sorted they are a great car. Why buy something else? Just my 2 cents.
Totally true at least here in the UK. Only 1 right hand drive model for sale for £60,000 approx $90,000USD. It went up by £10,000 this week! Go figure! I spoke with various Ferrari specialists and all concur the rarity for right hand drive 348 models and therfore dealers are going abroad to buy left hand drive so they have cars to sell.
+1 Rising prices are having a knock on effect where owners don't mind spending to sort their cars out because the ratio of maintenance to the car value is making so worth while now. Same for 355.
That 3 owner, 47K mile RHD 348 TS has been for sale for well over a year and was originally over-priced by @ £5K. Since the values of 348's in the UK have been rising, it's been constantly advertised over-priced by at least £10K! Either the seller is hoping someone gets desperate to own a 348 TS and will pay the price or they're not really interested in selling it!
That one has been for sale for over 2yrs. Every other car sells very quickly. On top of a high price id put £5-10k ($15k) to get it reasonable. (Cam belts etc+paintwork)
Just had am interesting conversation with David, the owner of Forza here in the UK. They just had a very rare right hand drive 348gts with 28,000 miles which sold within hours for £60,000 ($90,000). The car needed a service and paintwork but the buyer wanted to take it as it was. He has some excellent cars and very nice to talk to about all models.
There was a bit of a fire sale here in the U.S. For quite a while, but it seems like lately just about every low production car, and some even not so rare cars are heading up. The way I see it, folks that were young when the 348/355 was new, like myself, are wealthier now and seized the opportunity to own them when they bottomed out in price. But there are simply fewer cars than folks that want them now. Time will tell if this is a lasting thing or not. Nobody knows.
I have a 1991 348 ts for sale. 32K miles with a 355 tail light conversion. email me [email protected]
I nearly went to view that 348 a year ago (purely for a condition comparison as it was already beyond My comfortable budget + I wanted colour coded lower panels and engine cover), but then found the car I eventually bought down in Kent and so didn't go. The strange thing is, it's always been priced so high that it's simply not going to sell. Yes dealers like to try and push the market price up but the price tag on this car has pretty much been taking the p:censored:ss for two years. The fact that whilst other cars have been selling whilst they've still got that one in stock doesn't seem to ring any bells for them! It's almost as though they're not really interested in selling it! - Weird!
When I called them last year when I was looking for a 348 they said I would have to pay to test drive it and were quite arrogant. Totally put me off. Has anyone here actually seen it in person and met the seller's?
I have a 1991 348 ts. 32K miles. Has the 355 tail light conversion. I have the grill but do not have the lights if you want to change it back. I personally think the 355 conversion looks much better however that is a matter of taste. Car was just serviced, new tires, timing belts checked, oil, fluids, new alternator. As you can see I did a complete interior restoration (over restore, better then new). Has Ansa exau. Motivated seller, have a 458 set to go and am going to see what the dealer will give for a trade. I have all service records. Email me [email protected] see sales thread for images or I can email you a link
Pay for a test drive? - Jeez!, how are these people staying in business? I'd have to say that the very fact that the car is priced @ £15K~£20K over the real market value shows a certain level of arrogance straight away! They're not the only ones to show a level of arrogance though when it comes to selling Ferrari's. When I was looking for a 348 TS last year I drove 100miles north to view one at a well known Ferrari specialist, liked the condition of it (with a couple of niggles that would have needed sorting out if I bought it), and asked if I could take it on a test drive, only to be told that as it had rained that morning they didn't want it getting mucky so could I come back another day when the weather was better and the roads drier! That put My nose out a bit straight away! Then when I asked about having the niggles sorted out as a condition of sale I was rebuked in a very arrogant manner with: "Oh no!, we're not going to do any of that! If you want that sorting then you'll have to pay extra for it!". I got the impression that they dealer didn't think I was a genuine buyer for some reason and needless to say I left unimpressed. When I spotted that The Ferrari Centre in Kent had 348 TS "Coming in soon" I was straight on the phone to them asking for first dibs on the car, and they bent over backwards to accommodate Me. As soon as the car was in they contacted Me (and warned Me that I would see it before they did their normal preparation work on it, so warts and all, which suited Me fine), and when I asked about a test drive there was no problem at all. They were down to Earth and as straight forward to deal with as you could want. The car felt right and they were doing a cambelt service as a matter of course regardless of the fact that it had only been done 2years before! I asked The Ferrari Centre if I could have the belt tensioners and waterpump replaced with uprated items as the engine was out already and they did it for the cost of the parts only. Once I had signed on the line and put My deposit down for the car, the sales guy told Me that he had actually had someone phone up that morning about the car, and when he explained that I was coming down to view it, the person on the phone immediately offered £3K over the asking price to buy it straight away, sight unseen! The sales guy told him that it wouldn't be fair on Me to do that and he'd rather keep his integrity intact with a prospective customer than make an extra £3k. He promised the guy that if I didn't want it then he could have second dibs on it, but I bought it so he missed out. I contacted the place up north to say I was no longer interested in their car as I had found a comparable car for the same money in Kent and they almost begged Me to back out of the deal I had made, stating that their car would be far superior to anything that The Ferrari Centre would have! When I said that it was too late, I was a man of My word and would not back out of the deal I was essentially told that I had made a big mistake and it would be My loss! I was already annoyed by the level of arrogance they had shown Me previously and this was just another nail in their coffin as far as I was concerned. To say that I was less than impressed would be putting it mildly.
So glad I picked Mine up a year ago! It would be unaffordable this years as the prices in the UK have risen by so much! I got on the 348 train just in time! - "Which was nice!"
I can see why. 348's in the UK are going for way more than here in the U.S. Glad you pulled the trigger in time
Justin's car is a nice one - I spent a fair amount of time poking around it at the Motori Italiano in March, and he was kind enough to answer a lot of my 348-centric questions.
For once in My life I actually made the right decision! I had wanted a 328 GTS originally but by the time I had got the money together to start looking, the prices in the UK went ballistic, and suddenly cars that were selling for @ £32K were selling for £40K, then £45K........£60K.............£75K and so on. So I started looking into My next favourite 2 seater Ferrari (after the 3*8 GTS range), the 348 TS (It helped that I was at college in the mid 80's when Miami Vice was all the rage and the 348 is like a junior TestaRossa!). There were some for sale for @ £28K, and I was humming and hawing about whether to buy then or wait another year and save a bit more money up, when I thought to Myself: "If you don't do it now then it might never happen!", so I bit the bullet and started seriously looking. I found a car that seemed right to Me and bought it for £33K (all of the cars for sale below £33K had gone already!). Today (12 months later), the same car would probably be at least £45K~£55K (with only 1 RHD 348 TS for sale in the UK currently [at a price of £60K], it's hard to judge the market for the car at the moment!). Had I waited that 12months to save some more money then I would not have made My 36year old dream of owing a Ferrari come true!
