I have an 07 Gt3 and a 355 5 speed... if I had to DD one of the two I would pick the 355. Its more softly sprung, quieter interior, and has more comfortable seats. The Gt3 is my track car and that's about all I use it for. If you are looking at a newer Gt3 (2010-2015)then daily driving may be more practical.

The 355 is a DD.. I drive it as such..!
and I dont see how a 355 could be compared to a GT3..?
maybe a Boxter or Caymen.. but not even..

The 2014/2015 is more civilized than the 2010/2011. Not sure you can go wrong with either, but the size, styling, and PDK only should be a major consideration. I would suggest driving a 997 and 991 back to back so you can judge for yourself. The 997 values are through the roof right now since its PDK only from here on out.

Swap your 308 for a GT3 and keep the F355. If you really want a daily driver I would get a 997 TT instead of a GT3. The GT3 has been always been portrayed as more of a track car, not that it couldn't be used on the street. The TT is the best of both worlds.

I'm also contemplating a similar transition. I have my eye on a 2016 purple GT3rs. The sticking point has been the "feeling" each car inspires when I look at it. My problem with the gt3 and all other new 911s is that they all feel too assembly line-ish. It feels common and not unique or special. I need my weekend car to feel special. But since you're saying this would be a DD for you, maybe that's precisely the selling point you're looking for. If you decide to pull the trigger on a GT3, please update your findings.

Depends on where you are driving and what kind of commute but having owned both, I would take a 997gt3 and most certainly a 991 model over the 355 for a daily. More spacious, easier to park and leave and modern conveniences like bluetooth etc.

    Nice dilemma though!!

What are YOUR thoughts as those are the only ones that matter in your case. However, you did ask ours so personnally i would never swap a Ferrari for a Porsche. My fun cars are just that, for fun. If you drive them every day they'll lose their novelty and their shortcomings become clear.

It is possible to buy a real nice 10 year old 911 for under $20K and still keep your 355. No, it wont be a GT3 but in everyday driving conditions, the ones you want it for, you can't possibly use a GT3 to its fullest anyway.

The GT3 will be a far superior track/mountain car and still be cheaper to maintain as a DD.

How much is that "Ferrari" specialness worth to you? The GT3 is absolutely a superior car in every measurable way, but if you've multiple Ferraris it would be a perfect addition.

The only Ferraris that can measure up to a GT3's performance are the 360 CS, 430 Scud, 458 Speciale, etc.

One other thing is, the 355 definitely has a better ride quality than a GT3. Mine rides like a limo compared to my 987.1 Cayman which can knock my fillings out, stock.

For a DD, you can not beat a 997 Turbo. I picked one up recently and have been using it daily in all weather conditions and it's great. Probably the best car I've owned. I still have my F355 Spider and it's still the most fun weekend car.

Hi Chas, the 991 pedigree of the 911 is so vastly superior to the 997 model. I highly recommend a 991 variant. In my opinion and experience any 991 car will be superior to a 997 GT3.

The 991 GT3 is an absolute beast. One of the best cars in the world. It can be driven every day without a problem.

If you wish a slightly tamer version, you could pick up a 911 GTS. I actually just bought a new 2015 RWD 911 GTS and I cannot praise the car enough. If the mighty Ferrari Enzo handles better, I would be surprised. The car does absolutely everything. If not going with a GT3, make sure you order one with the PDCC option - Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control. It's handling magic - similar to the ABC (Active Body Control) that Mercedes debuted around the turn of the century. While you're at it, consider the Adaptive Cruise Control option, which literally drives the car in traffic stop-and-go. Never ever will a dealer order these options for inventory so you would have to wait.

While I cannot recommend you trade away your 355, the Porsche 991 is far and away a better car if you really feel you are ready to move on.

Wow good for you. That car is just a monster... It has one of the most interesting and technologically advanced engines ever built. Specific output is 125 hp/liter and specific torque is 85.52 ft.-lbs. per liter -- numbers that are unmatched on any road car.

    A 2015 GT3 vs a 1995 355, 20 years of advanced technologies. No contest.

But, after a week in that does-everything-for-you 991 GT3, you will be itching to get back into that do-everything-yourself 355.

I know Mitch thats my dilemma
I have way to many cars.....but I know if I sell my 355 or 77 308 Ill be kicking myself forever.
I may just need to figure out additional garage space/storage.

Or get a 996 GT3. The only thing it does for you is ABS. You get in that monster, you better bring your 10-game. It is a good daily driver if your commute does not have any pot holes.

I dunno... the older GT3s ride like garbage trucks. Sorry to put it in those terms and I don't disparage the car or owners... just not meant for even occasional street use.
