I've decided to get another dog. I was into the protection sport Schutzhund, but that was nearly 16 years ago. I usually get Rottweiler's, but this time decided to go German Shepherd and maybe get into protection sports again. This afternoon I put a deposit on a male puppy, he can come home June 9th. His parents are Czech working lines. First German Shepherd. I'm very excited!!! Who else has a Shepherd?

I got a hand me down German Shepard today :)
She belonged to an old guy that died for about six years. The guys son took the dog for a few years and the son just died.

Sorry for the loss, its rough when they go, even from old age.

Nice dog. I looked at rescuing but our shelters are pretty empty at the moment. Also want to do something with the dog. Its a waste to buy a working dog and not work it!

If I don't do protection, we'll do competition obedience.

Now I have my parents wanting a dog. My Dad's thinking Belgian Malinois. Its a breed like the GSD, but more suited to police work. Hence they are replacing the Shepherd as the go to dog for both law enforcement and military.

I get my puppy at 8weeks on the 9th of June. On the 10th obedience classes start, 6 week course. The training place does a lot of rally and obedience competition. Leaning towards competitive obedience.

We've had a non-purebred Belgian Malinois for several years now. She's a wonderful dog, we love her to pieces, but she's a handful. We were warned. I would not recommend this breed to anyone who does not have the time/space/inclination to keep the dog physically and mentally active on a daily basis.

My parents and a brother live in the same neighborhood. We are buying up land as an investment! Net result we walk several miles nightly. Between us we have probably 200 acres here. Dogs get lots of exercise with us. My mother has done competition obedience and rally with several dogs over the years. Very large working breed experienced. They'll get both physical and mental exercise with us.

We also own about 300 acres in Eastern Washington. Lots of hiking.

We have a philosophy on pure bred dogs and that's using them for their intended purpose.

Well get to pick up the new little mutt at 2pm today. So much to do and not enough time. Run up to the bank to get cash, etc. Going to be a busy day.

Family has had three. They are tremendous animals.

I just wish the dysplasia could be addressed.

So far going great. Except for the biting. My last puppy was 15 years ago. Since then I've always bought youth dogs with some obedience foundation on them. This little sucker is like a little shark. Those damn teeth are sharp!

All the time and patience you put into that puppy the first two years will be rewarded. And I hope your giving a couple hours a day in training and play - these dogs need to be challenged and physically exercised.

    More nice dogs!!!!

99% sure he'll go for his obedience titles. So professional training/socialization starts the day after he turns 12 weeks. Waiting for all his shots before leaving my house.

    Another nice GSD.........

Finally have the biting under control. This one is a little shark! Arms look like they have been through blackberry bushes.

Another nice GSD!!! I've been bad with pictures. Only taken a few on his first day home. Keep forgetting to use my phone.

Little disappointed in the breeder. I was expecting his papers any day now. Well they phoned this morning to confirm my address and his name. They have not even submitted the papers into the CKC yet. I'm a little ticked over this.

    More nice dogs!!!

I need to take more pictures before he gets any bigger. He's more then doubled in the month and a half I've had him.

I knew going in GSD needed exercise, but didn't think it would be triple the amount a Rottweiler needs. 5 walks per day and he still has too much energy.
