I don't use the ignore function, I'm not a fan of it. Besides, if I ignored the 3-4 people hear causing the vast majority of the problems, there wouldn't be any posts! They've run nearly everyone else off. Mark
+1 to all. Exactly the point I was trying to make. We used to have a pretty solid community where disagreements were (generally) intelligently discussed, and we either changed our opinions our agreed to differ. Very good. Now, the signal to noise ratio has just become terrible. Again, a shame. Cheers, Ian
As an occasional contributor but constant reader my advice would be to simply ignore any post you feel is over the top and refrain from commenting on it. If you keep the conversation focused on the thread topic and simply ignore irrational messages they'll remove themselves because boredom will ensue from no one taking the bait. I won't blame anyone for what's transpired, no point, no one will agree...but let's get back to covering the in depth technical talk, the exceptional pictures from race weekends and speculate about how innovation is happening. I don't really care who thinks who will win, doesn't matter and the race will be run, those threads seem to invoke the majorty of the rancor anyway.
Me thinks that this comes due to people getting irritated and lack better ideas to change the situation and try to answer a troll by trolling back. I think this is because moderation here seems to be passive (after complaint) and not active (reading stuff). There is one prime example of the opposite and that is P.Singhof. He does tirelessly confront toil with understanding and logical arguments and to my knowledge has never had any sort of slip. The point is that this also doesn't get anywhere. What you refer to is that at some point people lose it and then you as the daddy on here see everyone fighting everyone and no one has a clean track record. What you don't see is the story behind it. You don't see the first 100 days of the chaos. By the time this has boiled up to what you see today this forum has had to deal for about a full year with it. The many rare posters here do not know toil's full history on here. They swing in and out and you won't avoid people responding to him, no matter whom you have on ignore. If you have the time for that, I would fully support this. Be diligent for a while and when things are getting better, give okes more leeway.
Over the past couple of years there has grown a population of posters who prefer to belittle others, ridicule comments and opinions, posting nonstop things like "smh" and generally conveying a sense of superiority and disparagement. In the eyes of these users, everything is a right and wrong, black and white, cause for confrontation and need to prove someone wrong. It has ruined the fun of coming to Ferrarichat. Nowadays I go elsewhere for car forums.
Im getting tired of 30+ pages in a thread of the same 4-5 people bickering back and forth over the same thing, over and over. I think i'm gonna go follow a NASCAR thread/forum. . . jk, no i'm not. I'm gonna give this ignore thing a whirl.
Didn't check in for less than 2 days and saw this - incredible. Going back to the OP, I'd previously posted re Toil's comments about calling a fellow non-native member an illiterate. Response from the Mods team was extremely even handed and fair. For him to then insult a member in 2 different posts (Monaco thread) for the same thing after the previous warning is uncalled for and out of order. Frankly we are supposed to be ambassadors for the Ferrari brand, with most of us having one for in the garage, and anyone looking at our forums will get the impression that we're a bunch of bickering spoilt bratts saying Toil this and Toil that. He's been warned before, repeated his offence, therefore should be punished. Simples. Best, Sammy
I've had toil on ignore for a while now. It makes life nicer but its a shame that it's needed. Personally I find it a bit disingenuous when the mods defend not banning him for the good of the community. But it's their sandbox.
There are a few points i would like to talk about: 1- I don't think this is about Hamilton fans vs hamilton haters, there are plenty of people around here that are big fans of Lewis and that can discuss f.1 in general without making a mess out of it, (kratwerk is a very good example of this)also, besides being a Hamilton fan, we can see he likes Ferrari, so i always respect his opinions, even if many times we differ greatly on many subjects. AS for the other side, i believe 90% of the posters if not more, admire and aknowledge Hamilton's talent wich is more than obvious, this does not mean however he should be condidered as "god on wheels" or that he cannot be criticized... 2-I understand this is a free forum, you don't have to be a "certified" tiffosi to be here, but at the same time i cannot understand the point of someone who obviously doesn't care one bit about Ferrari being here! It's like if i went to the f12 section and talked all day long about my Mercedes benz...whats the point? i'm pretty sure that at some point someone would get fed up with me! This is the same, we have someone, in an f.1 section of a FERRARI site, who only talks about a driver from another team..let's face it, it's boring and it doesnt make any sense...like i said before, some like Hamilton but they discuss the rest, perfectly normal, but in this case i cannot see the purpose of this person being here. 3-Unfortunatly rudness to other posters is not confined to the f.1 section, sometimes newbies get some very stupid ansewrs from "older" posters, without any reason. 4-AS many have said desagreeing was never a problem, hell, i desagree with many here about Alonso, or about Alesi, or about Massa, and this was never a problem, to each his own, i lay my facts on the table and others do the same, in the end each one will make his own conclusions, but if someone in not willing to reason with the others, what's the point?...Peter discusses every opinion with logic and a saint's patience every time but let's face it, he's just losing his time... So, i just wonder wich is the real objective of Toil posting in the f.1 section of Ferrarichat, he likes hamilton, i get it, but this is not Hamiltonchat, or PF1 forum, he must understand that this is a Ferrari forum so it's likely than may of the posters will root for ferrari drivers, or diferent drivers than Lewis, once he get's it (if he ever get's it, wich i very much doubt) he will stop being a problem...
Good points! You left one out though. what about if in the F12 section you not only talked all day about your Mercedes Benz, but also how it's the best car ever made and the F12 is rubbish and will disintegrate with rust before your very eyes?
You miss all the fun, I'll copy and paste it for you and send it in a email .... Thanks Pedro correctomundo.... it's all in fun for me, life is too important to be taken seriously, ask me how I know.. How's the weather shaping up in the Algarve .... my heads getting ready for some sun on it, it's crap here...
I joined Fchat in 2006. The F1 forum has had those who go directly to nuclear war during that time. They come and go. Their opinion is fact. People figure it out and stop rising tp the bait. They get tired and move on. Best Its only a sport folks. Not life and death (hopefully). Take it with a grain of salt.
This. Oh look another whine thread by Ian. This totally adds valuable discussion to the F1 section. Every time I even post something even slightly rude he makes a thread about it to try and get me banned. It is ironic that he rubbishes my claims that Lewis is superior to Jackie Stewart yet at the same time thinks its okay to say Lewis is not fit to carry the jockstrap of [insert long list of drivers here - many who weren't even good]. Funny how he can say this yet I can't say the opposite. I also have more ground to stand on given that Hamilton is already more statistically successful than Stewart, faced more formidable opponents, and isn't even half done with his career yet. Anyway, I digress...I think Craigy has hit the nail on the head here. Ian is part of that malicious group that likes to belittle others who disagree with him.
The difference is that he has seen them racing and he knows what he is talking about, you do not know anything about F1 prior to Hamilton but you think you could tell by looking into Wiki...But obviously you will never get that and so it goes on and on...
