Well...not exactly, no. He drove cars with high horsepower in Canam, but in Formula One mainly the DFV engine, which gave between 450 and 470 bhp.

Your post carries the rather hefty assumption that only those alive during an era have any right to comment on that era of racing.

I have watched multiple hours of video footage now and read extensively enough to form a reasoned opinion. Ian has yet to provide any reasons why "Hamilton is not fit to carry Stewart's jockstrap". All he does is whine and make baseless statements.

 

I'm sorry, but you are showing here precisely the contrary of what you are trying to prove. I am 55, and when I came on this forum and found that Ian was actually who I thought he could be, I just could not believe it. Because, even with almost no races shown on the french TV in the seventies and the eighties, I have seen quite a number of photographs of him practising his trade with a certain racing team to respect his opinion, because "he was there"; not at the wheel, but part of the Formula One circus.
And so you would have known that he maybe living in the USA, but he is british (If I'm not mistaken) and furthermore, that he was an active member of the Formula One circus; so he got "some coverage", live, of the end of the seventies and the beginning of the eighties. He would probably not mention it, so I do.

He didn't need TV coverage, he was actually there.

Don't try to be such a know-it-all. You don't know nearly as much as you think you do when you make baseless assumptions and post with such a condescending attitude. Even those who are genuinely well informed don't use such arrogant tones - I think this goes a long way to explaining your unpopularity.

Yes...furthermore, knowing is one thing, but it is understanding that really counts.
We have an expression at work in France about certain persons meaning this:
"Il sait tout, mais il ne comprend rien"; ("he knows everything but understands nothing")
So it is actually self-defeating sometimes to try to show your knowledge too much.

Yes that was a backfire. But hey, how could I have known all about Ian's life? If you had told me he had been there as part of the f1 circus I wouldn't have taken that route. Ah well, plus side is you all get to laugh at me. That said, if he was still part of the f1 circus he would probably have a different opinion on Hamilton.

I have seen it. No doubt he did a lot for the sport (off the track). That shouldn't have any bearing on how he was rated as a driver though.

Blocking you is as much use as taking aspirin to fight a brain tumour. Everyone here got along reasonably well and most respected each others opinions and where able to discuss about it.

When you joined, this forum transformed into A slugging match between Hamilton fans and anyone that didn't agree with Hamilton was immediately a hater.

The mods have now said that if we want the problem fixed, a good number of us will have to leave. I suspect in that list are Aircon, fast Ian, maulaf, furoni and myself, perhaps others. Essentially what they're suggesting is remove all mayor organs to fix an std which can be fixed with a dose of antibiotics.

As for the ignore button - I put one person on ignore but then found I missed having a laugh at the drivel being posted, so have since un-ignored and just have a laugh instead. No need to take this chat room stuff too seriously. It's meant to be entertainment not life or death.
