2009 Used Ferrari 430 2dr Coupe Scuderia at CNC Motors Inc. Serving Ontario, CA, IID 13633199

Hello, this is my first post but I'll get straight to the point. I have always wanted a ferrari and now that I can afford it I've been after either a Scud or a 458. All opinions are highly appreciated.

So this is the 4th scud I've inquired on in the last year and I can't take not having one anymore. I currently have a 2014 GT3 which I would be trading in on this. They have offered my 135k trade in on my GT3 (paid 145k) and are staying firm on 209k for the Scuderia. In November I was given the opportunity to buy a 2008 for 180k with 4k miles (red), then in march a 2008 with 8k miles for 190k (red), april a 2009 with 6k for 210k (red) and now today this high mileage for 209k. The car has the ferrari extended warranty until May 2016 included in the price. I am wondering if this bubble will pop and me being impulsive will lose me lots of money?

    Am I being impulsive?

What is a good price to pay for this car? (I think with the current trend if I can get it for 200k I might do it)

Do you think the bubble will pop? (obviously this isn't certain)

    Thanks,

    Andrew

CNC Motors usually sells cars in great condition and many people here can vouch for them as a reputable seller.

Generally with the Scud, I think most people would agree that the prices for the last year or so are gradually increasing. They are probably only going to increase over time. I do not believe that prices for these cars are going to drop dramatically for the foreseeable future. They have already done their initial drop, and prices now are rising as your search seems to confirm. There are only so many out there.

As for this specific car, I don't think you are being impulsive IF you prefer the unusual gold wheels/stripe option. It is not for everyone and may affect the value. If you like it, go for it. If you prefer the grey stripe/wheels, I would wait for one of those as it will most likely be the easiest spec to sell should you ever decide to do so.

If you really like those specs go for it! Prices won't be coming down anytime soon.
I'll sell you my 08 with 4k miles for a similar price if you want haha

Hard to say there is a bubble in Scuds -- these cars were $170-190k for years and have moved up maybe 10% recently? You can find plenty of Ferraris and Porsches where its more like 50-100%. CS's went from $150k to $225-300k in the last year. 997.1 RS's have done similar things.

While I think values for some cars are extended and will eventually cycle, if you like this particular example and the condition checks out I'd say buy it. This is a market where it will be difficult to find anything resembling a bargain (and where a single exuberant buyer at an auction can move asking prices quite quickly).

When the market finally corrects, most cars that have enjoyed recent appreciation will depreciate but its hard to see Scuds falling beyond the prices seen post financial crisis. I'd be willing to wager you'd lose more on a 991 GT3 than a Scud in that situation.

This exact car was much cheaper about 1-2 months ago from a dealer in the east coast. If they are firm on price, they are determined to keep the market prices high. They can buy time. I felt this scud had an interesting color combo. Cnc is about 10 min away from me if you need soneone to take a look.

I have also been looking at scuderias, this one is priced well according to the market in my opinion. If you like the combo you should put a fair offer on it.

+1. So, you are looking to buy a car that keeps appreciating and you want to sell a car that keeps depreciating. Even if the scuderia prices stay still, your 911 will still depreciate. Do the math and pull the trigger on a scud asap. As far as the specific car, it looks clean. I would do a PPI and then take it from there.

    Hi Roy,
I wish my scud had no radio. You defiantly have one of the nicest cars out there. I know...😉
    Don't ever sell that car.

It's a self-fulfilling prophecy for a scud to take a big hit after 10 thousand miles here in the U.S. Consumers drive the market. Yet an FGT holds value over that mileage.

Thank you for the opinions! Very much appreciated.

Currently I am at a stand still. They will pay me 135k for the GT3 and take 209k for the Scud. I want 135k for the GT3 and will pay 200k. Neither of us will budge so we will see what happens.

Hard to believe they would walk over that spread. Good luck.

Prices are definitely up then as this car would not have brought 200k a year ago.

They just don't care, they are banking on the market rising up to their asking price and can bide their time.

The thing is they also know they'll make a killing on the GT3. My buddy just returned his '14 GT3 to the dealer he bought from in anticipation of his GT3 RS coming in and they sold his GT3 for MSRP.

Have you thought about selling the GT3 privately? You might make up the $9k difference and then some.

I get a tax credit for trading the GT3 to a dealer which helps out substantially. I'd have to get MSRP to even out to 135k on a trade.

It makes sense. Plus you don't have to deal with people's nonsense when you try to sell it privately.

Yah these are both big pros IMO. There are some dealers that will do a courtesy trade though where they take your trade and resell it to the private party you already made a deal with for whatever price. So you can get the tax brake.

You´ll lose that fight...If they sit on it for 3 more months the market will have moved a bit more and they can ask 220. and so on. They´ll likely be close to 300 this time next year...

I know of someone who paid $210k for a 2009 only 2500 mi. From a Ferrari dealership. A VERY nice one as well. I think your offer of $200k is more than fair. Where were you 2 months ago? This car was sitting for quite sometime. CNC most likely feels the market is on an upswing. It's summer. Doesn't help that CNC is probably reading this thread as we speak :).

Not in California, California doesn't give sales tax credit on the trade in.
