Dennis had to leave to avoid an investigation on him after he told Hamilton to lie to the FIA about overtaking Trulli on yellow flags. The scapegoat was hamilton's engineer iirc. Another memorable episode and another reason why I love them both.
It's easy to blame everything always on Mosley or Briatore but Dennis is no better in my eyes and he still sticks around.

As a huge Ferrari fan, it does pain me to see them struggling. They were proper, competitive contenders. But i just feel Ron isn't the right person to lead them anymore. As someone mentioned, i think Ron's arrogance has severely dented the team.

Why are you so sure about that Ron Dennis would do better than Withmarsh? Since the 90s he had more bad streaks than wins. Anyway, right now his job was only finding sponsors, and he´s not having much success.

A winning team is not build hiring a messiah. They already have Podromou, who is not Barnard but nobody is in these days of restrictions. Probably a decent engine comes first.

Ron Dennis isn't just struggling to find big money sponsors, he's flat out given up and already made his excuses for his failure to secure one.

Last livery change made me wonder if they're in talks with sony for a Playstation sponsorship. Even some of the older liveries had the car's name written in a similar font as playstation uses. So far nothing though

wasn't there talk last year already with PS4 sponsoring either lotus or McLaren and it never happened? Well F1-2015 is going to be released soon, so maybe something will happen there.

They´ve been using the same font for years so I don´t think this is related to sponsorship. Anyway, the livery change mid season is really strange and it can only mean two things: option A, they´ve something already signed and are waiting for an announcement, or option B, their PR department is dazed and confused.

I didn't say that, I said he did the right thing as Whitmarshs manager. Gave him a chance, etc.
I don't think you can design a good race car by committee so I do think you need a clear design leader.

    I hope so.
I would hate McLaren to fade away like some great teams of the past: Cooper, BRM, Tyrell, Lotus, etc...

    McLaren should hire

    1) Ross Brawn
    2) Adrian Newey

McLaren should fire Bouiller, keep Prodromou. Team fixed! ;)

Supposedly that's Podromou. Their engine sucks partially because Podromou set important aero restrictions.

Although Mercedes is doing fine with lots of bosses.

    Pure fantasy, I would think.

Ross Brawn is happily retired and devotes his time fettling vintage cars.
He had indicated no interest in going back to F1.

Adrian Newey has taken a back seat at Red Bull and during the last 2 years their last cars has shown to be inferior to previous designs. Newey dreams to be involved in a America Cup boat design.

It's pure speculation if Brawn and Newey would have worked together. Newey already had a stint at McLaren, and he doesn't call that a happy experience. I think he clashed with Ron Dennis a lot.

Eric Boullier is a team manager, not an engineer. He is more in administration and on-track management than anything else.

I highly doubt, at the stage these men are in their careers, lives & bank account sizes, that they would submit themselves to working under Ron Dennis.

The biggest single step forward McLaren could make would be to permanently get rid of Ron.

Having said that, I'm so enjoying them getting excited about scoring a point or getting into the top 10 that I'm happy to see him stay. :)

Ron has the Steve Jobs complex. They sidelined him and he came back stronger

McLaren has had winning pace and race wins from 2007 through 2012. Since then they have bled talent right and left, tightening their budget and unwilling to spend the money that Red Bull, Ferrari and Mercedes burn through.

'13, '14 weren't so hot and now 2015 is abysmal, but they have the skills and experience to improve, and so far this season they have done so remarkably. The inflow of cash from Honda will be a huge boon and once they have the kinks worked out of the powerplant success should not be too far on the horizon.

True, very true...... Lord Hesketh & his (very! ;)) merry band were certainly "lovable"......

I'd probably add Sir Frank to the list, but only really 'cos I remember his struggles and then the joy when Saudi Air came along.

Beyond that, the list is short, and not very distinguished.

    Cheers,
    Ian
