Considering what the black cavallino's sell for, that is very generous indeed!

If I needed a sculpted style black one I'd buy a silver chrome one, rough it up, etch prime then satin black top coat it, simples.

I like the silver / chrome one regardless because it stands out more.

    TBH, I'm the same!

The black horse is just too hidden on the rear grille, it's a bit too anonymous.

The silver horse on the other hand adds a bit of contrast to the grille and shouts "Ferrari" to those cars following behind.

(Ferrari must have thought the same as they dropped the black horse shortly after the 348 came out!).

Gorgeous! (Black is definitely my favorite color for the 348 which is why I've got a "nero met. 901/c" 348 TS : )

My '91 ts came with the black sculptured one shown in most of the above pics. The etched flat one is indeed for the Testarossa and didnt belong on your can in the first place. I also have my original one for sale for purist sake, but nobody would know the difference if you painted a readily available (and cheaper) chrome one matte (not flat) black. Feel free to PM with an offer if you want my black one, it was in mint condition last time I saw it! lol

    Theonlyest,

My 1991 348TS RHD had a 'flat' black cavallino on the rear from new (and the correct for model/year/market 'no cavallino' on the front), so I assure you flat black ones were not fitted to Testarossa only.

More than likely F fitted what was in the parts bin at the time.

Chuck, I was going to refinish it and make a desk ornament out of it so if you need it for your car I won't bid on it.

I can confirm this as well. My SS is chrome and was never swapped.

When you zoom in doesn't that ebay one look scratched or with yellow markings?

Looks like its painted to me. The yellow appears to be some sort of primer. Looks the same as what was under my original body paint. I was under the impression these would have been done with a black plating process. Maybe not then.

How lazy must you be to not remove the rear badge (or easier still, remove the entire rear grille), to respray a 348?

(And how bad must the masking off on the car have been to end up with over-spray on the front face of the badge?)

Unbelievable! I was the only bidder and got it for $51 (includes shipping) when there is a "Buy It Now" for the same type emblem active right now for $115. Crazy. I can buy a lot of paint for the difference in price. I'll let you all know what the yellow stuff is, but me thinks Brian was joking. :)

Mike, thanks for not bidding. Much appreciated.

No worries-- you had a real need for it. Glad you got it. Hopefully it'll be easy to strip and either paint or powder coat.

If anyone hears of another one available please post it, I'm still looking for one as I resist painting over my chrome one :-(

Well I received the prancing horse today. The yellow stuff is underneath the black paint so it is some sort of primer or someone wanted a yellow horsey. Regardless, the black paint scratches easy so I'm going to take it down to metal and redo it. Still, a nice emblem at a fair price.

As I thought. Did not look right. Couldn't imagine how you could get overspray got on the rear of it.
