IMO the new Dino should have a similar footprint as the old NSX
Transversely mounted V6TT Shorter wheelbase than the 488

Think the next gen after 488 will be carbon tub based and spawn
several versions including Dino and maybe something above a 488 equivalent

Yeah, you're right about them being very different sports car approaches. While their price points might invite comparisons the 2 cars would not be direct competitors. My bad!

All they have to do is rebadge and restyle the Alfa 4C I'm sure they can fit a V6 in

The only reason that Ferrari sells all the cars they make is that they deliberately keep production below demand. Were the demand there they'd be cranking more out now.

Makes sense, where else would you slot in another model?

    488 - average price $280k

    Cali T - average price $250k

    Dino V6 - average price $220k

Great post - Funny and true!

(I actually think ferrari going to 500hp with the Dino leaves a 400hp window for the Alfa 4c...do you think your new addition would be better suited with that level of power?)

Also, someone mentioned why not go lower in price...I think they have two lower priced sports/GT cars with maser badges at $130k (coming soon) and $160k (GT). I realize ferrari "may" float its shares separately, but it's still likely to have many ties to fiat group and shared development of items (if not cars) and maybe even a creative way to get CAFE credit from the higher mileage cars there (or whatever the new cafe is these days).

There aren't enough potential customers at 220 to pay off the note fast enough.

If Ferrari WANTED to make a cheaper car they would have years ago. Now it's about HAS to.

You don't think their current ebitda - capex will cover the inherited debt? It's not the job of this model to finance the company. This model will, like all their other models, generate positive cash flow and thus can only help their financial results (obviously assuming it sells, which is a fair assumption based on everything ferrari has done in recent past). And besides, we are taking about the cars here, not the stock. Maybe we need a forum for stock picks? :)

Last I heard it was four billion in short term debt. Fiat is spinning them off to help finance its own survival scheme.
That nut and the fact that they will be directly answerable to shareholders (many of whom aren't friends and family) will impact what they sell.

a Dino V6 , if properly positioned to differentiate it from the " bleeding edge tech " 488, should be available with classic lift -off targa top version, splashes of chrome trim inside , radio and a/c delete options, fully analog , lighter old school sport suspension option ( " sweetches ? .....we ain't got no steenking sweetches ! " ) , gated shifter option

maybe it will fill a " track rat / weekend warrior" role in the line up equiv to a Porsche GT3 because it will be less " precious" than a 488

in today's US market / dollars and as typically equipped , it makes sense from a relative branding perspective to see the following :

    GT3 $145k, Dino $180k, 458/488 $280k

I like a lot of this!

That said, I'll be shocked if it's track oriented and under $200k. I don't think this will be Elise like...more 458 like would be my bet. (In terms of being GT like vs light, stripped, etc.)

if Dino V6 is in the $200s and more " 458 " like, most will just buy one of the many, many pristine very low miles pre owned V8 458s out there and add a powertrain warranty for security if they wish ...and they will prob hold their value better also , so who would buy the Dino , since a buyer at its lower price point is also the buyer who is prob more likely to care a bit more of the total cost of ownership, even though there is " just " a 70-90 K price difference

reminds me of the comment from a VWAG exec who said the buyer of their $300k Bentley typically owns 6 cars , a second home with a 40 foot boat and flies first class, but their buyer of a Bugatti Veyron owns about 80 ( not a typo ) cars , 5 homes , two boats incl a yacht and a private jet , even though the Bugatti is " only " 1.5 M more !

So beautiful...I can understand why these cars go for what they do...I'd love to have one.

:) It was either hyperbole or a play with the concept of "average owner" on such a limited production car... you throw someone like the sultan into the mix, with lets say 2,000 cars, and the average balloons, even if the "median" owner has 10 cars...
