Monaco. It's everything that's good about F1 and everything that's bad about F1.
    Lately it's more the latter.

McLaren would have scored points already at Spain if they didn´t have that silly problem with the blocked brake ducts so it´s not a Monaco thing.

Anyway, 8th it´s nothing to write home about.

Well to answer to OP, McLaren is halfway back in the field now, NOT in the back like at the beginning of the season. ;)

Eighth would have been an improvement for more than half the field.

When some people like Eclestone want a new generation of GP cars with 1000hp, they don't seem to consider that once a year, the F1 circus visits Monaco and its narrow twisty layout where the formula is completely unsuited.

Never mind that the cars are difficult to control in that environment, the worst is that overtaking in practically impossible without the cooperation of other drivers. And now, the FIA starts to dish out penalties if you attack or defend too vigorously.

Probably the most glamorous GP, but not much else ...

Mclaren are still at the back of the field. In Spain they finished 16th and 17th. The only reason they did well in Monaco is because the car was not as important.

Come Canada they will be closer to the back of the grid again. Also we must consider reliability, the Honda PU is probably worse than the renault. It even breaks during qualifying. That car won't last long with the amount of stress that Canada has on the cars. It will fall apart by lap 20.

    Yup.
Then again, glamour ain't what it used to be.

If the real turbos could race there I'm not too worried about overpowering the circuit.

If hockenheim threw up a bunch of chicanes, invited the Kardashians and declared itself a principality there'd be a German GP this year.

+1 and glamour itself is a personal taste. Id like to see Monaco dashed and keep Monza. Monaco off the calendar is no loss for my taste in 'glamour' or my desire for real racing. As I stated yesterday in the race thread, I made more passes on the Autobahn out for my weekend fun drive than are made in glamour town in 5 years.

Monaco should be struck off the F1 calendar, because the formula has now outgrown the circuit frankly; it has done for a few years really.

Monaco should create its own Super Race based on a lower formula, F3 or GP2 maybe, outside any championship but with a huge cash price to attract the media. A bit like Monza used to have with the F2 Lottery GP in the 70s, if I remember correctly.

Monaco could still keep the glamour, the starlets, the celebrities, the social side and the yachts and the uniqueness attached to the place by becoming like the Macao GP.

Macao never had a F1 race (thanks God), but it's still a huge magnet in the Far East with its special F3 race, that counts more on a driver's resume than some obscure championship. The Macao GP stands on its own, and Monaco could certainly do the same.

If it could attract racers from various F3 championships and arrange the weekend with several qualification races to get down to a 20-car field for a Sunday finale, that would be a good format.

I don't want to be unkind, but as a genuine F1 track, I think Monaco is now totally unsuitable.

F1 when you boil it down is entertainment.
    Monaco entertains.

I also like it for the challenge it presents.

To me, F1 is motor racing first, and not show business.

People who want entertainment should watch the Oscar ceremony, or the Cannes Festival, with plenty of flesh exposed, jewels galore and haute couture.

The pinacle of motor sport doesn't need glintzy environment to have good racing.

The spectacle of Monaco is what attracts a lot of sponsors to the sport. It's not going anywhere.
No matter how poor a racing venue.

Honda will pull the plug on this train wreck late next year . Honda has only done any good in f1 is a small window in the late 80s in t hat time Noone was putting money into f1. They is no way if another big manufacturer came in they won't get the back row .

Just to play devil's advocate, Canada is not the easiest track for engines, and their DNFs was caused by exhaust problems, so probably it's an easy fix. They'd said something about big updates for Austria and Silverstone, so I'd give them a pair of races more before declaring it a total loss.

There is now a real risk that both Honda and Renault will pull the plug. That would be a disaster for the sport, but an ever increasing possibility.

I hope they have a new motor on the test stand already as they sort this one out. This can not go on for 2 or 3 more races. No driver can stomach an endless display such as this.

I would think the Honda Board are very much focusing on this as it impacts them globally via the media sources.

I think it is nice that you are giving McLaren the benefit of the doubt, but exhaust failure or something else, this is inexcusable for racing at this level after nearly two years of development/racing.
As a McLaren street car owner I find it extremely embarrassing and totally unprofessional
