Hello I have a 1982 308 GTSi american model, and I need a new set of keys. Mine are already aftermarket, so they do not have the number on them Any tips where I could find the right one?
Are you looking for aftermarket or OEM? I bought an original Neiman ignition key blank on Ebay for around $300. My car came with one of the two originals. The door keys generally cost around $60-80 but they can be difficult to find since there were so many variations. If you just want an extra set of aftermarket keys those are easily available and cheap via Ebay or several online key stores. You will need to match the door key to the correct type, sorry but I'm unsure how to do this without the number stamped on them, but someone might have a visual guide. I believe the variations are numbered 2, 4, 6, and 8. As far as I know the 308 all used the same ignition key blank, and the key type was shared with the F50, which also makes a very nice key if you can find a blank.
The worst one is the ignition key, but I was told that aftermarket keys come in a variety of thickness, and not all fit in all ignitions. Does this make sense?
Outfit in Australia has them. I'm sure he will sell u some blanks and you can get them cut locally. I'll try to find my receipt and post the info. He cut mine from the numbers. You sure you don't have the number. Mine was in the owners manual written on the service card.
I have the originals for my 1980 308 GTSi and two sets of aftermarket it came with. I went to my local locksmith to make more security copies. I took my originals and a set of aftermarket. Just for fun I handed him the aftermarket set...he matched them with keys he had in stock...cut them...work perfect...$7.00 This specialized key stuff is rubbish IMHO
Makes perfect sense to me, I have a number of aftermarket door keys I had cut which won't fit because they are too thick. None of the ignition keys I have experimented with have issues, but I wouldn't doubt it being possible. If I were you I would just pick a popular online ignition blank for the 308 model and have a locksmith cut it. If it doesn't work then don't force it and look for other options. Most likely it will work though, and only cost a few dollars.
I think only two lists of original metal ignition keys available on eBay currently: http://m.ebay.com/itm/381283650949 http://m.ebay.com/itm/151649840743 Others are not the exact metal ignition keys for 2V and early QV. Two lists of original style reproductions also cost heaps: http://m.ebay.com/itm/281511216739 http://m.ebay.com/itm/171574167815 But there are lots of SILCA reproduction available on eBay and other sites. Price vary a lot from 2 pounds to 50 or more... For the original Torino S.A.F.E. door keys, 4 types of blades starting with 2, 4, 6 and 8, see below page to learn the blade profile: http://www.key-men.com/shopping/show_cat.php?catid=Ferrari The key code on your owner's manual may NOT be correct if there happened to be a replacement of the entire lock mechanism before.

Start the easy way with a local automotive key specialist - they will probably have the blanks on their rack under Alfa Romeo
I had this guy make up some spare ignition and door lock keys for me a few weeks ago. If you don't have the codes you can email him photos of both sides of the key and he's able to work out the code for you. He uses Silca blanks.
I recently purchased two blank keys from eBay for $12(One for the door and one for the ignition) I took them to my local locksmith to cut them. They work fine.
The car in question uses a steel blank. I have posted the info before, not sure where, but you don't need a Factory Neiman blank, Ilco, and Taylor both make the correct profile, and any key shop with enough depth of inventory can fix you up, for about $4. If no one can find it I have all my keys out at home, to send to my new owners. I am just NEVER at home. The Ilco blank is the most common....
Well, if you were really hard core, you could pull both door lock cylinders, and have a Safe Company repin them, to match those cuts! I had to do that once, repin a cylinder...lot's of trouble, but possible.
In desperation one time 8 years ago when my key broke off in the door, I took a piece of stainless steel sheet, machined down the thickness and cut the slot and teeth. Was supposed to be temporary. Went to a re-keyer place and they never could get one that worked very well. So I still use this one. It's a hand made car, so minus well have a hand made key to go with it. If I could do it again, I would have started with a nicer looking piece of metal instead of a scratched up one from the scrap bin. Thanks for the complements. Thought I'd get a lot of grief for such a rough looking key.
Yep, I have a little supply of modern blanks for our Ferraris, and can help you identify what you have if you send me a photo. I charge just $6 per key with free shipping. Honestly I about break even for the time spent. Please use my email address verses a PM here. [email protected] Cheers, Robert
