Talk about spine tingling. ..... I still have 2 horrible memories of when my 599 tried to kill me!

As a matter of fact the main reason why I sold the car...aside from the gearbox (Sorry I just don't like single clutch units) was the last time it tried to kill me.

I was driving in a straight line at 60kph on a cold, minor downhill road and I floored it to get around another car and it simply kicked sideways and I was heading straight for a traffic light pole. Luckily I saved it.... but never again did I trust the car.

 

agreed; While I did not own a 599 I have driven them including back to back .. I would suggest one thing add the Capristo remote on the exhaust my dealer added it on mine prior to deliver .. It makes a very nice addition to the car..

Good Lord. What raclaims said above about racing experience. One of the fundamental things they teach you is to ease onto the throttle. It's all too easy to momentarily forget what we're dealing with in these beasts.

I find the F12 to have better grip on the streets than the 458.

 

In this instant driving in a straight line.!!!!!

No car with modern traction should violently kick sideways no matter how hard you tramp the throttle and it was only in sport mode too.

And I was lucky that I have a great deal of racing experience as I raced in our national Porsche GT3 Cup Series for 2 years amongst various road rallies too.

9 out of 10 people that day would have crashed.

Condor Man, wow thats scary. I wonder if you remember the tires on your car? I've found the MPSS extra grip have really cured this issue with the 599. You still have to respect it but I now don't have to really strain to consider every last ounce of traction the car should have. Another car that could step out on you like that is the Porsche Carrera GT. I never had the 599 do that to me though- must have been absolutely frightening.

I agree with Rclaims and everyone else- we're all saying the obvious- if you're getting a Ferrari of any kind really- you should have some experience with sports cars/ and some track experience would be advisable.

 

Lots of cars kick out in a straight line. The 599 just happens to do it violently instead of a gradual slide. It's fun to mash it in 2nd and just let it dance back and forth all the way to redline.

On a cold street, around a bend, full throttle will upset all powerful cars. Can't fault the car for it.

If I still owned the 599 I would change it to the MPSS straight away.

The Carrrera GT - Famous for doing this and there have been some well documented accidents in these angry beasts.

 

Perhaps in Race of CT/OFF

But not in Sport.

In Italy, I had it in sport on dirty roads and it would kick and then get back straight on line.

The 599 nearly threw me 180 sideways.

 

I agree, the upmost attention is required.

Especially in the 599 as the traction control system doesn't match the sheer raw power of the car.

 

Its always a good idea to switch to old and hard tires with no grip. Makes the car more fun to drive everyday.

Was in Spa Franchorchamps and on the Nordschleife this week, an epic trip. The zoom out of corners is unbelievable and really exhaustive on a hot day. This car is a blast and it worked like a charm. Looking forward to Green Hell Day next week, it is F12 only. Anyone there?

I actually did an F12 search at Nurburgring last night on YouTube and there were very little vids up.

What numbers does this car do at the Nurburgring?

 

Add the hill to that. If the road was dropping away at that moment, splash some more grip.

 

I am used to track cars with sub 200hp, so the F12 was a whole new experience for me on the track.

To be really fast on the track one would need to reduce the body roll, stiffen the dampers and shave some weight, maybe put some trofeo r on it.

I guess it is exactly what the F12 VS will deliver.

F12 Supertest in German mag Sportauto was like 7:33ish. Mr. von Saurma who drove this time will be there on Monday for the F12-only Track Day. Hope to get a lift from him.

I am happy to do a sub 8mins BTG, kind of 8:15/20 for the SportAuto lap.

As there is a speed limit (250 and 200kph at or before certain dangerous sectors) on the Nordschleife since the tragic accident a couple of month ago, it will be more difficult to cut lap times. Dont know if speed is measured on Monday...

 

Thank you for sharing your experiences. The F12 is almost the opposite of what you are used to driving at the track. Its not as much momentum car as it is simply nail it, brake hard, nail it, brake hard. Its fun but it also wears out the parts faster.

Have you all seen the video of Randy Pobst (sp?) of Motor Trend driving the F12 around Laguna Seca and offering his driving impressions? He says exactly the same things you just said. Very enjoyable and interesting video. Ill post a link below. He comes on around 5:30 but you might as well watch the whole video because its FUN!

The f12 has noticeable and visible bodyroll and that what make it more tolerable on the street when roads aren't perfect. I was always confused to why people tracked a near 4000lb GT car...
