What to buy on a budget?

I'm looking for advise on what Ferreri to buy when you are on a budget.

I have a cap,at roughly 50,000 and would like to keep the annual maintenance cost down.

Any advise is appreciated.

Ill give it a try. A 348 is still affordable. can be purchased in the 40's but its maintenance cost is not that cheap. Then again I know of no modern Ferrari that is cheap to maintain.

 

The historic answer to that question was a 328 GTS, but they have risen in price far beyond $50k now.

Not sure where the prices are for the following Ferraris but they should be less than a 328 these days:
- 308 GTSi (the carb cars and QV's will be more)
- 308 GT4
- 348

.

 

At $50k cap all is available today can be picked among some really bad Mondials, 400s, rebuilt title 348s and possibly 355s.
Any of them would mean no fun and financial disaster to OP.

If your not a mechanic/craftsman like myself, purchasing any of the forementioned could turn you Ferrari expierence into a nightmare of epic porportions. Save you money and wait until you can find a car you can afford and maintain. Until then enjoy FChat with the rest of us and pick up the tips that when the time comes to get the Ferrari of your dreams you will be prepared for its ownership.

Truth is that 50k won't buy you a useable Ferrari. You can find cars under that but by the time you catch up with all the differed maintenance you're above 50K. Unless you intend to do all your own wrenching. And given the question I don't think that the OP is versed in Ferrari maintence.

 

Thank you guys. I had in my mind a 400, slso you can search in smaller countries like Sweden and import it to your country of residence.

 

I'd think that, if you're careful/lucky, you might still be able to acquire a decent 308 GTSi for $50K. Perhaps one that's accumulated a lot of miles and that's been reasonably well cared for and hasn't been sitting for a long time.

 

I assume too that the OP means 50K USD?

 

Don't look at 12s if you're on a budget. Particularly one that was never officially imported to the US.

 

I realize you asked what FERRARI to buy w/ $50, but to expand your pool of targets, I would seriously consider a 6 or so year old Aston Martin V 8 or a Lotus Turbo Esprit S4.

 

You can still find fairly "affordable" examples in Scandinavia. Usually properly serviced for most of their lives.

 

I'm speaking as a US owner. I like the car but it's not easy to own here.

 

Can you define "down" in regards to annual maintenance costs? My car is currently in the shop because the previous owner let it sit and did much of nothing. There is nothing actually wrong with the car except some dry rot on some rubber pieces and the tires and we're doing a belt change and fluids flush and adjusting the clutch. The belts and fluids alone are $4500. The cost to do everything is $13k.

The cost of the Ferrari never ends with the purchase. Never.

Take a look at Autotrader, type in $50 K max price under Ferrari.
I would target one of the Mondial models close to $40 K.
As mentioned maintenance and parts can destroy your experience in short order.
Up to date service is a must have, and good luck with your search.
Better to heed the warnings above than to hate your car later.

 

I see couple of 456s advertised in the upper 40s .. The , 308Gt4.., 400s..and others
THe maintenance issue is the real concern . It is not impossible to find a NICE ferrari in the 50K range.. However IF you got hit with a 5000 repair bill would that kill you if so then I would save some more or wait till you are in a better position to buy a ferrari..
Either way buy the BEST car you can it will come along..
You are in the right place to learn about Ferraris just as i did .and many others .....
you will get there no doubt..and best of luck....One other thing the 360s on are far more reliable and easy to live with cars...

 

Wow.m Not that long ago you could get a 330 2+2 or a GTE for less than $50k.

Is this a real post because OP hasn't chimed in nor does he have location set.

There isn't much that can be bought for $50k.. but you could luck on something.

It's never buying a Ferrari it's maintaining it.

Hard to say, hope we did not scare him off.
The 3 Mondial cabs on Autotrader are all under $40 K, some with "low" miles leaves you $10 K to sort stuff out. If I was in his shoes I would be asking about history and service records of that black one.
I always liked the 456, and think for a 12 cylinder F car is reasonable in price .... I did not mention maintenance costs as reasonable.

 

I forgot about Mondial especially non T model ...iirc maintenance is less
