Aston Martin pairing with Red Bull??

Yes with the engine deal in road cars. I don't see AM being "in" F1. Every team has to be careful especially after the Team Lotus frackas and engine revolution which is challenging so many teams. It will be just branding like Infinity.

 

+1. This news that seemed to come out of nowhere can pick up some steam in the
summer break. McLaren and Honda are going to improve next year, but honestly, they
will be in the middle of the pack. RedBull with Merc on the other hand will be
competitive from the get-go so it will be very appealing for Alonso. I'm sure there is
a clause in his contract for early release from Mc for performance reasons.

Another matchup will be Alonso vs Vettel in his old car; this will also be interesting to
watch.

 

That car will be as much an Aston-Martin as the current one is an Infinity.

 

Engine tie up or not there's no good history for Aston Martin in F1 . Like Porsche they've history in sportscar racing (though only 2 wins - one AM, the other Lagonda), other than it's 2nd tier, that'd be the natural fit. Their current presence isn't really doing much for the brand.

 

But would you say that Infiniti are involved with F1 though? They have a logo on a car with next to no actual involvement in the building or development of that very car.

To suggest that having the Aston Badge painted on a car is having that company 'back' in F1 is a tad generous and not particularly accurate.

 

Do you guys know how many wins came at the hands of a team using an engine as a customer while the Factory team is also racing? I'd like to know that. I'm certain that Williams nor anyone else have or know the same knowledge... maybe even the same PU as the Merc factory team with their Mercedes powered cars.

I mean... its just like Haas using Ferrari... there's no way they'll ever beat Ferrari with their own engine. It seems that when you do that... you're basically accepting you'll be happy midpack with an occasional podium if the right things happen to the right teams during the race.

Let's look at yesterday... sure... Williams went one and two... but I don't think anyone believes that they weren't going to get passed at some point my Nico and Ham.

Maybe I'm just way off base, but I don't know... sounds like the wrong move.

 

Under prior rules, a team could get things changed on the engine to suit their car. Now, its one lump in all. This is why Mclaren dumped Mercedes as fast as they could, they want to be able to design their own aero/mechanical package and that involves the engine and its "power unit" accessories layout.

Its also why Red Bull has complained about Renault, Renault didn't build the engine or make the changes Red Bull wanted. If they had, they'd of shut up even if it didn't work out.(Similar to you don't hear Mclaren complaining of Honda.)

Brawn beat the werks Mercedes/Mclaren team with their super defuser.

 

Imo most probable scenario is Renault buy Lotus and Red Bull gets Honda engines in 2017

 

Aston Martin could come back in F1 as a title sponsor, and use Mercedes engines rebadged as Aston Martin.

Just like Renault came back in F1 by rebadging the Benetton.

Of course Aston isn't going to build up a new F1 team from scratch, so it looks at an existing team it could sponsor. Red Bull may fit the bill, and maybe Lotus (soon in receivership) may as well.

 

According to Autosport, Adrian Newey is supposed to be doing design work for Aston Martin, could the plot be thickening?

Red Bull's chief technical officer Adrian Newey is working on an road-car project with Aston Martin, amid discussions about a possible Formula 1 tie-up between the two companies.

AUTOSPORT's sister publication, Autocar, has revealed Newey started working on the project with Aston Martin at the beginning of 2015.

This follows last Saturday's revelation that talks between Aston Martin and Red Bull could lead to the F1 team bringing the Aston Martin name back into F1 for the first time since 1960 as a brand partner in a deal that would allow the team to use the dominant Mercedes engine.

The road-car deal is a part of partnership between Aston Martin and Red Bull Technologies.

Sources close to the deal stress the partnership does not automatically mean they will work together in F1, as Red Bull Racing and Red Bull Technologies are separate entities.

Insiders describe the embryonic project as "ongoing, with no certainty of reaching fruition", but as well as using Aston Martin's road-car engineering resources, Newey is understood to have worked with the firm's design team.

The intention would be for the Aston to rival high-performance road cars such as the McLaren P1 GTR and Ferrari FXX K.

Red Bull team boss Christian Horner told Autocar last month that Newey was keen to pursue a road car project and that Red Bull involvement in the sector was highly likely.

"It's something that Adrian is keen to do as a legacy project," said Horner.

"At the moment our focus is on being a Formula 1 constructor, but as we see more technology cross over with the road car market, it's something that will organically grow."

Horner refused to rule out the Aston/Mercedes link when questioned over the British Grand Prix weekend, while Mercedes motorsport chief Toto Wolff said "the door is open" to such a deal.

Mercedes customer F1 teams Force India and Williams have also emerged as potential candidates for an Aston deal.

 

But if they "self identify" as Aston Martin it's ok.....

 

Lotus identifies itself as Lotus, but we know the truth...

Imagine you have 5 constructors running Merc Engines. Merc, Williams, Lotus, Force India, Red Bull. Rule changes com into effect so McLaren and Ferrari get their **** together and VIOLA, we have a battle between McLaren and Ferrari again. Williams switches to Honda engines a year too late and battles for the occasional podium. Mercedes and all their customer teams are now relegated to the midpack.

I can dream
