Your battery should still be in the passenger foot well. If you haven't one already buy a battery conditioner (tender) to keep the battery fully charged when the car is little used. A lot of the issues you see are related to battery issues.
The alarm box should be in the same place as earlier in this thread. I've left the antenna alone as it works when I'm within a few feet of the car in all directions. It's a matter of what works for you.

My understanding from the dealer (who is a Ferrari expert) that in 99 it was behind the seat but I guess I'll wait to pick it up and find out. It's already wired for a battery buddy and has wires behind both seats.
    Thanks

    Alan, try going here:

    All Ferraris

and download the "Owners manual Modena 2000" if you haven't yet. I have a 1999 and the manual is exactly the same as your and my car with the exception of the Air pump in the engine bay pumping air into the headers.

It has sections in it that explain the systems in the car in some detail.

I did download the 2000 manual and it said it was behind the passenger foot rest. I didn't see a 1999 manual. I will have the car this weekend so I will settle this once and for all.

Everything in that manual will be the same as your car.

It's a very exciting time for you! :)

I could just see the red wire under the left hand edge of the metal cover. I managed to fish it out with a hook so no need to turn off the master or remove the plate. You may want to check that before proceeding -- makes life much easier.

This is the most awesome mod I've read! I've always wondered why the distance is so short for Ferrari! Anyone has knowledge of the 458's alarm location? My 458 is just as bad...lol

Since fishing the antenna out from behind that steel plate my fob works from 20 feet away. Have no idea why Ferrari did that.

I have a spider and was able to use my fob around 60 feet reliably with this mod.

Ok, I need help. I pulled the red antenna wire out and laid across the black boxes. I still need to push the fob sever times (and I am right next to the drivers door). Does anybody have any recommendations? Thanks.

Open the fob, clean off the battery contacts with an eraser or fine sandpaper and put a new battery in. This solved it for me.

I think it is the same black sticky stuff they coat everything in the car with.

I think they gave it short range on purpose to reduce the risk of "pocket" disarming/unlocking of the car. Unlike some systems, the 360's doesn't automatically re-lock itself if inadvertently disarmed and no door is opened within a certain timeout period. So, with the increased range you can walk away, accidentally have something in your pocket press the button and unlock the car, and it will stay unlocked unless you re-lock it by pressing the button again. I stayed away from this mod given the amount of things in my pockets!

Maybe. Not necessarily if there is a lot of street noise.

The chirps are rare on cars at least in Switzerland. None of my cars here have ever had an audible chirp when I lock or unlock their doors :\

Okay this might sound like a stupid question but I can see wanting long range on your car if you are leaving the supermarket, or the mall and there are a lot of white SUV's in the parking lot, I push the button to open my rear hatch on the RR when I forget where I parked it. On these cars I am fine with it working when I am close to it, and cannot see any reason I'd ever want it to work further away. My 4c and the Evora 400 (both much newer), have very limited range as well, which is fine with me. I remember when I had the C7 (I think the i8, RR and the S class have it to), I was able to lock the doors (flash the lights) from my phone when the car was 30 miles away (freaked out the film guys), I could never understand why someone would need that, but the fact I could see on a map where the car is was kind of nice, though now my smart does that with every car. I like the simplistic way these cars work, you need a PHD to understand he 900 pages of owners manuals a new S class comes with. Sorry for the rant, but sometimes simple is better!
