    I just wanted to ask a little question from a Ferrari-fan to a Ferrari-fan ….

Every year we go on holiday to Italy by car and every year we put one day aside to visit Maranello (or the region of Maranello). In the past years I have visited the town and the Galleria a couple of times and last year I visited the Lamborghini Museum in Sant’Agata Bolognese and the Pagani factory. I even stopped by the old Bugatti factory in Campogalliano to see what’s left of it ... My plan this year is to visit the Casa Enzo in Modena and maybe the Lamborghini Museum in Bologna.

The question is: would any of you guys know if there were any other interesting places to visit in the area? Maybe a garage ( like Toni Auto ) where you can see some nice cars? Or an lesser known collection somewhere? It doesn’t have to be Ferrari-specific, but - for example - I heard that there is the Panini-collection of Maserati’s in the area ; maybe an idea for next year?

Anyway, if anybody out there has ideas, just let me know please …

Offcourse, everything will be visited with respect and no pictures will be taken in private garages – that speaks for itself I think ...

I didn't know the Righini museum ; definitly worth a visit I would say AND in the 'area' ....

Although the new Alfa museum looks beautiful, it's a bit to far off. We're coming from Castiglione del Lago by car and are staying one night in Maranello Village, so I wanna spend that day somewhere between Bologna and Modena. Although we're driving the next day in that direction (Modena-Milano-Como-Lugano-Luzern-Basel-Mulhouse-...), I'll hold that one for maybe another trip ...

    Any more suggestions?

There are no cars at Schodoni, but the leather factory is a very impressive place to see.
Not only do they do Ferrari related interiors, but all manner of leather goods. Smells like heaven in there :)

You might want to try a stop in Imola. It is a small town with a race track that used to be used until just a few years ago for Formula 1 races. The track is in a park just outside of the town center, and there are roads you can either drive or walk on to view some of the famous portions. When I have been there, the track has been closed (no activities going on) but I could walk up into the grandstand areas etc. There used to be a shop with some nice posters, books, and other memorabilia at the track, but last time I was there about 3 years ago it was gone. Don;t know if it has relocated or reopened.

Once I was there on a Monday, the day after a weekend of motorcycle racing. I arrived just before lunch time while work crews were cleaning up and hauling away trash. The gate to the track was open, so I walked onto the track itself, and in my broken and partial (my wife says hilarious) Italian, convinced one of the trash truck drivers to take me for one lap around the track -- in his trash truck -- in the wrong direction. Made for a good laugh and story for both of us. There are also some nice real local flavor restaurants and snack bars in and just outside of the town.

Sounds great, but not really my 'thing', I wanna see the cars. Besides, my son is 2.5 and is crazy about Ferrari's ( he calls every sportscar a Ferrari, but we're working on that :) ), so there's not much to see for him, is there?

Thanks for the tip! I've never noticed that Imola is that close to our 'route' ; I'll keep that in mind ....

Funny story about the garbagetruck ; I would probably do the same if I had the chance ...

Near Imola is another interesting very small town called Dozza. The buildings/houses have giant art murals painted on them. Kind of quirky and fun. In the center of the town, near the small castle are 2-3 more than decent restaurants. Again, very local in atmosphere and food selection. One of them is called "La Scuderia." No connection to Ferrari, really, just that it is in the old stable buildings from the castle. As with many of these very small, old Italian towns, you will park in a small parking lot just before you enter the town itself and walk in. Walking from the parking are takes no more than 5-6 minutes. Look it up on Google Maps and you will see.
