    Also the issue of landing distances - the old HK Kai Tak couldn't land Concorde, otherwise the economics may have changed considerably... Such a shame they're gone.

    That actually looks like very good value, and I'll need some tail-wheel time before I do my Spitfire endorsement...

    Pity it's so far away. If it was within Oz (say Vic or NSW) I'd be quite interested.

    Odd; I remember lots of discussions in HK people bemoaning no Concorde to Europe / HK?
    Guess the issue might have been noise - probably would have shattered windows in Kwun Tong :)

    I don't think it was a regular route, but it definitely could be done. Noise shouln't be toooo bad on landing, and takeoff is over the water I think? Two problems I can think of are that there'd be a stop between Europe and Hong Kong (Concorde range is a bit under 4000nm, CDG-HKG is a bit over 5000), and basically the entire distance would've been over (or near) land, which is where the noise issue arises. A lot of the route is perhaps over less-populated areas through Russia, Kazakhstan and China, but there's quite a bit across Europe too (Great Circle Mapper)

    Concorde was designed for London/Paris - New York - LA. The NY LA route was going to be the pay-off by eating into the corporate jet market (twice as fast and half the cost).

    Unfortunately, the yank EPA stirred up a ****fight with a massive scare campaign about sonic booms, even though they wouldn't be noticed from 60,000 feet, and killed off the route. It was never going to be economically viable after that.

    Concorde had two incidents at Sydney - one arrived from Christchurch with a hunk missing from the rudder.
    Another had steps on wheels blown by the wind into a wing, rupturing a fuel tank which took ages to fix.
    Witnessed one go around - one landing and one take off, staggering to watch!

    This video has been floating around for many years, and the booms are very clearly audible... but to be fair, Concorde was supersonic before even reaching 30000ft on climbout, so who knows what altitude this one was at.

    Seems, from brief reading, like it could've been audible from a large aircraft like Concorde at 60000ft, but maybe not too troublesome amongst regular noise in a city or etc.

    Personally I would be very pleased to hear this every day ;)

    Agree about so far away, but gives you an idea on current charging.
    Apparently time on Auster - Piper Cub and Tigers is not held in high regard when you rock up for Spitfire endorsement!

    Haha! Probably fair enough.

    There must be a similar syndicate or aircraft available in Oz where one could get some relevant tail-wheel time before the main event.

    He can pay $2k per hour to fly his, and I'll get paid $2 per hour to fly "mine".

    ROFL - Hard to complain toooo much ;)

    The promo "artist's impression" images of it landing on a gravel(?) strip just seem weird for that sort of aircraft. I look forward to seeing it for real!

    It looks pretty snazzy, although I suspect you could make just about anything look great if you shot it flying around in Switzerland...

    There's just one thing that is obvious to me, watching that...

    Where is the enormous rear cargo door which makes the PC12 the best aircraft in the world for what we do?

    I can't see where it would be. There's not enough room aft of the wing on the left hand side for that door.

    ...doesn't seem to entirely match up to what's in the video though, as you say - that door looks much biggger than what could fit behind the wing. Maybe they've got the engine mounted on a hinge to make room ;)
