My friend went came out with me for the day in my 599, he put his 430 up for sale the next week and bought a 599. With regard to cost, my 599 has not cost me a penny for anything other than servicing and a new battery in the last 3 years and nor will it for another year, as the dealer gave me a three year Ferrari warrantee with the car plus it already had a year on it. So try to get a Ferrari warrantee when you buy yours. One other question the 599 brochure states on page 13 the "599 has 620bhp, +105hp over the 575m " is that not correct ? I see the figure quoted sometimes as 612bhp? Image Unavailable, Please Login
Ive seen the 599 HP represented as 612-620. I'm sure there is a tiny variance between each motor. All I can say is if you take out the secondary cats you will be making around 650HP and its nice. Btw- the car handles great.
Yes, the 575M came with a variant of the tipo 133 upgraded from the 550, upgraded again for the 612. Wonderful motor. In the 612, it was producing 533hp. 575M is somewhat less, as was the 550 less than the 575M. The 599 has the tipo 140 powerplant introduced in the Enzo in 2003, totally different motor, usually purported to produce 612 hp. Think of it as 575M was more than enough and 599 is just too damn much. I couldn't finish 2nd gear around town in the 612. I can't finish 1st in the 599. But I do love her so
Your a lucky man to have experienced both the 612 and 599. Glad your enjoying your recently acquired 599.
Because the translation in the manual is wrong, they quoted HP when in reality they are quoting the metric European for horsepower which is CV (Chevals Vapour) or PS (Pferdestärke) You can see the part in Italian is talking about CV. 620PS equals to 612HP Convert ps to horsepower - Conversion of Measurement Units Most of the numbers out there will quote the metric horsepower as just "horsepower", only American magazines make the conversion. A pretty easy example is the Aventador LP-700 4, those 700 are PS(CV), check the horsepower and you will see the Aventador is 691HP.
The difference in quoted hp is due to the difference between DIN and SAE net. A 575M has 515 hp DIN and 508 hp SAE net. Conversion factor for DIN PS(hp in German) to SAE net hp is 0.986. So 620x0.986=611.3 and looks like they rounded it up to 612 (why not?). The Europeans are largely switching to kilowatts as a measurement of power in the EU.
Yes maybe the use of KW will replace HP (metric or imperial) in the future in the US just like CCs replaced CIs years ago for displacement. Only cars still using cubic inches are muscle cars, maybe just for "tradition"
They are both correct and the conversions are easy to do. Note GM was quick to say 427 on their limited edition Z06 convertible. Traditions counts for something, even if the engine was closer to 428 cu in, a Ford number. But Ford had a 427, too.
Apparently, you are in the wrong forum. And, I'm guessing you meant 'cars', not 'cares.' And in a strange coincidence, we don't care what you think about anything... I'm pretty sure you meant 'matte', not 'mat'. And, No... you won't be uploading pics... you won't be here. I think you meant 'new', not 'knew.' User fX Trader permabanned for being disruptive, argumentative, combative, and generally socially unacceptable. (In other words, he was just being ******) Mike
This mindset bothers me massively. Having a high income not does mean anything in regards to being frivolous with ones finances. Those with 7,8 figure incomes typically are not foolish by any standard and have a distaste for buying lemons that will be money pits no matter how low that ratio of repair cost to income is.
Have a look through the entire thread. He was calling out a troll, not suggesting what you're reading into it.
Waking up an old thread for a new question. I own an '06 F430 that's completely sorted and looks the part. I only drive it around 50 miles a month if I'm lucky. I've been looking around hesitantly at 599's as I think they may suit my driving style a little more. I've found a black one over in DFW at the Lambo dealer that's around $150K but my problem is I'm worried about jumping from a car that's been recently serviced and bulletproof to a car I know very little about. My son does a lot of the work on my cars to get them bulletproof and we let Norwood finish out what can't be done by him. I've been reading a lot about the 599 and just don't want to get burned. I passed up an opportunity on a MANUAL 599 a few years ago for $170!! and don't want to make a dumb mistake again. I'm almost 58 and getting into and out of the 430 isn't the easiest although I manage. I'm 6'4" 240lbs and think the 599 is more my style, a GT car. I've owned several 6's including an M and I'm putting this car in that arena as far as my fit. Any advice besides "go and drive it" I don't want to involve a salesman unless I get serious. Of course, I expect bias in your help. That's why I posted it here. I have a shopping list for my car that's a mile long to make it just for me but don't want to throw $$ out the window. The pic is of mine so you don't think I'm a poser like that other guy... Thanks for your help! Image Unavailable, Please Login
599 will be more comfy. The torque makes the 599 much more pleasant to drive around town IMO. The sound system is better which mattered to me. F430 stereo is atrocious. You'll love a 599. Obviously stepping out of a known car fully serviced with a high degree of confidence, the best you can hope for is an equally well serviced and reliable car, right? So maybe you spend a little sorting her out. All cars need a little tlc now and again. So which is the car for you? I wouldn't go back to a F430 now.
Beautiful F430, BTW. In terms of investment, you can forget it. All modern V8s were produced in huge numbers. With the exception of F430 manuals, these cars will be depreciating for years to come. Regardless, the F430 is still an outstanding sports car, which means you have options. Rather than swapping for a 599 to get the V12 experience, have you considered maybe purchasing a 612 to go with the F430? That would be a terrific combo, that should cover all of the bases, in terms of the Ferrari experience. The 612 may surprise you, as it was made in very limited numbers and is currently way underrated. It is also an ideal car for "big" guys, such as yourself. Many also consider it better looking than a 599. Ultimately, the decision is yours. The 599 is an outstanding car and comes in various flavors. Make sure you test drive the version your interest in, before purchasing. Good luck.
Thanks for your advice from both of you. The 612 isn't for me. I like the timing chain even though the belt isn't a big deal swapping out. Also, I'm not into a 4 seater/can't afford two play cars/don't want to worry about the maintenance on TWO Ferraris. I've looked closely at the 599 but am just worried about reliability compared to a well sorted 430. I understand that any F car can have MAJOR problems at any time but just want to limit my exposure as much as possible. I could even go for a first year 458 if I really stretched it but think the 599 GT experience would better fit me and no way could I afford an F12. It appears that each model has its own little problems. The 430 has a problem with headers that's only fixed with aftermarket headers. Appears the 599 has some suspension problems or was that guy that was babbling about an Aventador just blowing it out of his ***?
Was a good point on the 612, but if it's not your cup of tea, it is what it is. You're choosing between two generally reliable cars. You clearly have a high level of confidence in your F430, and I just don't know how you can have that in any car you haven't owned and serviced yourself.
Getting in and out of the 599 will be the same as the 430. My 550 was easier to exit than the 599. The seat just cups its passenger so well! When you only drive 50 miles a month I'm not sure I see the parallel of one model suiting your driving needs better than another. At the end of the day you're driving a modern Ferrari & that's what matters most! I also completely agree about your sentiments on the 612 having belts. But for what you described (bigger build & easy entrance/exit) the 612 will accommodate your specifics. They even dropped the recommended 3 yrs to 5 and let's be realistic - 7 years would be just fine also.. Best wishes and keep us posted!
I will. I'm figuring if I got the 599, I'd be driving it more since it would be more comfortable to me. Just a guess though. The low mileage is partly due to our thunderstorm/flooding weather we've had for many months. I also don't drive it when I'd leave it in a parking lot without me seeing it or to work so it kind of limits the places to go. I think a black 599 would be a little less visible than a red 430. I'm sure I can get the 599 up to snuff. It has double the miles (21,000 vs 11,000) so somebody had fun.
Think of the 430 as kind of like a super dooper M3 and the 599 as like mega M6. Thats the difference. I think the 430 is pretty reliable but I think the 599 is just as reliable and maybe even a little more reliable. I think its a little better made.
