It's down to how you define team. If you limit it to those you take the field your assessment is correct. If you accept that no driver can win without a capable car then those who produce that car should be included in the "team".

Can't you see that in all cases they LOST the WDC and the WCC win was a consolation prize?

Is F1 the special Olympics and we give prizes out to the almost winners? That is the WCC!

Yes it is fascinating, but if the teams were paid based on their WDC results it would work the same.

But, there would be half the number of cars on the grid. The WCC is to increase grid count.

No, still 2 or more cars per team, just pay Y for 1st and (N x C)x for Nth for the other cars, or some other formula.

The WCC was not started to increase the grid count or to control the funds for TV revenue. Interestingly up until 1979 only the points for the highest placed team car counted towards the WCC ...

Go back far enough and there was only a WCC and no drivers championship.

Sit by my knee grasshopper and learn.
There was a magical time before Bernie. A time of heroes and villains. Of gentlemen Drivers and of rogues. Of fire breathing beasts that few man could tame. A time of epic races of majestic length that ended in cities different from where they started. Where real men raced not for wealth nor titles but just for the sake of the thing.

    ;)

Yes, but pretty sure the driver was the hero (maybe Z driving Y sort of thing) if you are talking about the road races of the early 1900's where for example Renault was killed.

If you are going back to the mythological times, whatever you say :D

    ?.

You only get points down to 10th place so no the WCC has nothing to do with the grid count. It was not started for TV revenue either, that came later but of course could be calculated, as I said, another way.

Even though I like Kimi, I'm 99% sure he won't have his contract renewed because of Marchionne. The guy is a ferocious cost cutting machine and he knows he can hire a young talent for much less money. Already having Vettel and with so many "cheap" drivers available (Ric, Sainz, Bottas, Hulk, etc.), he have already decided Kimi's fate.

Ric won't be cheap, €18m to buy him from red bull.

+1 excellent point, the driver salaries must gall Marchionne. Go with The Hulk, they could have him for a song.
