You are trying to punish him for his sins by recommending a Lotus and a GTV6? :)

    That's funny.

I actually have the GTV6. It's quirky but simple and fun to drive

Buy a red, first gen cayman. De-badge the car and add an aftermarket exhaust.

At least 50% of people will think it's a Ferrari. It will drive and perform better than any Ferrari in its price range. It is mid-engine so after some time you may even think it's a Ferrari. There are some reliability quirks but you can get a very comprehensive aftermarket warranty and still have another $10k+ in your pocket left over vs. the original budget and your general annual maintenance will be very very low.

    You're welcome.

Wait for the market to correct and/or tank and pick up some of the cars that were $50K a few years ago around that price? I personally don't see 308s and 328s (along with 348 and 355) staying where they are.

Or wait a year or two and aim at a 360?

    First-gen Cayman isn't a bad idea, actually.

    Neither is an M3. :)

I wonder what the stats are on posters saying I'm looking for a Ferrari vs. I actually bought one?

"I want to buy a Ferrari for.."

"You should buy a Porsche, Aston, POS Lotus, etc. etc."

    Only on FChat. :)

Better yet add a time frame with that. "I've been shopping for a Ferrari for 5 years now". No. You haven't.

I once shopped for a home in an out-of-control RE market for years. Price was always just a little more than I wanted to pay. That's probably what's going on with these guys. ;)

vrsurgeon, did you intend for there to be a comma between "POS" and "Lotus"?

I have never known of something positive going the way of someone mixing "Ferrari" and "Budget" in the same sentence.

    Kind regards,

    Nuno.

My Ferrari on a budget was a significantly different number than my budget for my college kid's car.

There's a thread in the classified where someone is looking for an F40. That will be what I budget for a Ferrari, after I win the MegaMillion this weekend.

P.S - I don't think $50k is unreasonable for a nicely sorted Mondial QV or 3.2. And if a DIYer, than I think it's reasonable for a Mondial t. I'm at 30K right now in my sixth month of ownership of a well sorted QV. If I factor in what I know I will need in the next year (Major service - $4k, Tires - $1K), I'm still under $40K. $50K would leave me with a lot of room for either a catastrophe or possibly something I don't really need right now, such as a respray.
