Was doing a tranny oil change a few years ago. I had purchased a case of Red Line 75w90 at Napa. Dumb me not thinking dumped it in. Bad deal. TR shifted completely different...not smooth at all. Forgot about the NS thing. Make sure you get 75w90NS. Listen to what Brian Crall says.

I always use castrol 75 W 140 LSD in my competition because of the high temperature I get in the transmission. same oil I have in also in my BB. when the oil is warm there is absolutely no problem to shift, only when cold sometimes the 2nd gear makes problems

    Thanks to everyone.

I think I remember reading about Royal Purple Max gear 75w90. If I recall it was good as well. Can anyone confirm this?

    TIA

    The thing is,
when so many people on this forum with years of experience suggest a good oil WHY would you go for anything else?
    Beats me :(

I'm having an issue with this forum and my browser. I can get to this page from a google search but when I try to start from the beginning my browser shuts down and I can't seem to just start from FChat. I can only get to FChat from a google search. I'm going to reinstall my OS and see if this fixes the issue. I will take your advise and start from the beginning.

Ok got the browser working again. Long story short, friend's email got hacked and when I clicked on his email it opened up to some FBI warning that my browser was compromised and I owed them 500$ and it would be released.

Back to the subject. Rifledriver, that's exactly the information I was looking for. Thanks and sorry for issue about my browser. I should have said something.

    Cheers

I confirm from my own experience in my TR, don't waste your time with anything else but RedLine NS. I flushed brand new synthetic oil that didn't work and RED LINE NS did the job.

    REDLINE NS period!

Any recommendations on clutch/brake fluid? OM recommends AGIP HD DOT3 (not available??) but I've read Valvoline DOT 3&4 does the trick.

I use valvoline dot 4 in both the Testarossa and Diablo. George Evans...the east coast Lamborghini guru recommended it to me as that's what they use.

Some of the cars have some special needs in the clutch fluid department but not a TR. I strongly suggest a good DOT 4 in both the brakes and clutch.

DOT 3's as a general rule are not a good idea.

Sweet, I'll grab some Valvoline DOT 4. I believe 1.2L for the entire brake and clutch system (same reservoir right?) so 32+12 oz should do it. Also thinking of using a vacuum pump to bleed. Never done it this way before so I may need some tips when the time comes.

Pressure bleed is better. No air incursion through fittings or joints.

    Guy's,

did my Gearbox oil change yesterday but I filled it all through the PLUG 4 rather than PLUG 2. Any issue with that? Although I put in 9.5 bottles, I did not see any oil pour out of PLUG 2 as the WSM specifies. Could it be due to the oil working its way through the Transfer case? I did stick my finger in Plug Port 2 and felt some oil. What a PITA place to put a fill port (#2), right?

Anyway, took it for a quick spin. Felt OK, gears changed nice, don't think I'm going to need any friction modifier but I'll see how it goes.

There is probably some residual LSD additive on the clutch plates but If you feel the back wheels grabbing and surging around tight corners you'll need to add a little LSD additive. I used 4 ounces for mine and shifts perfect.
You don't want to wear your clutches out prematurely.

You mean differential right? I'll take it for a nice drive on the weekend and report back. In the meantime, oil in loch nummer vier keine problem, richtig?

if you fill in the oil at the screw no. 4 it is ok, but it take some time, until the oil is in the other part of the gearbox. best would be after short driving before the oil is really warm to check the level again at plug 2, may be you have to put some more oil in before it will come out where the plug 2 is.

You're right, it's grabbing around sharp corners at low speeds . I've never felt that before. So GM LSD additive? Is there a type, weight or grade?

    Thanks Turbo

I used a 4 ounce bottle of GM LSD additive.
The label said, "GM Limited Slip Additive".
    No other specifics.
I purchased it straight from the parts counter at the dealer.

I squirt the whole thing in and drove it about 50 miles and the grabbing went away.
My TR shifts as easily as my BMW right now, even cold..
It seems to be a good mix
