Mondial the last "affordable" Ferrari good luck guys!
Yes, I saw it and it is very nice but more than double my budget. I know it is rare but $75K? At that price your competing with 360s, 355s, and a 550M.
I'm in touch with a black/crema t cab. Recent major. Low forties, but not high thirties. PM me if you'd like info.
Hi DDD, What the price of any Mondial, is competing with, is not of any consequence (any more). If you think $75K is high for this car, just sit back and watch, as the rest of the show unfolds. Cheers, Hank
I think it a much better car/value than either of the V8's you mention. Whether it is worth $75k today will be determined by the marketplace. There are only 18 of these babies, so if you want a Valeo, not a whole lot of options. The 550 is a very different animal and I don't think you can find a decent one today for $75k, at least not in a 3 pedal manual. 12 months ago would have been easy and 24 months ago, that money would have bought a creampuff. The market can go either way, but right now it is headed up. Even at todays (seemingly inflated) prices, I bet you wouldn't lose anything to depreciation going forward (absent some major economic turmoil that we just witnessed from 2009-2012). Good luck on the quest. Regards, Jerry
Not saying everyone will have this experience, but it might help with a decision. Affordable Ferrari is an interesting concept. However, if you go into with your eyes open, the costs can be manageable. Especially if you can do some of the work yourself. The Mondial 8, QV, and 3.2 are fairly simple (mechanically) cars and fairly easy to work on. I purchased an 85 QV coupe in Jan, Took possession first week of Feb. I've tried to drive it every weekend since. Not always possible due to weather. Even so, I've put over 1000 miles on it since purchase. The car had 65K miles on it when purchased. Everything was original, except the tires and wheels. It's in good condition, not perfect. What I would call a 10-footer. Interior is tired looking (no tears, rips or sags) and will benefit from a redye. My car had the belts done in 2012. I plan on doing the belts in 2 years (which would be a 5 year schedule). The car is a blast to drive. It handles amazing (except at slow speed in a parking lot). Sounds amazing. It seems to draw a lot of positive attention. I'm listing my costs. Maybe it will help you with budgeting. All figures are USD. Purchase 25,000 Shipping 1,250 Taxes 1,500 Travel Expenses to go look at car (pre-purchase) 500 (hotel, rental car, etc.) Total to get car home 28,250 USD Repairs since Jan. We do our own work, except where an expert is required (i.e. Alternator Rebuild). Hood, trunk, and engine lift strut replacement ~100 Oil and Trans fluid change ~150 Fuel Line Replacement ~100 Alternator Rebuild ~130 ***This was the worst failure so far SunRoof Fix (in progress) ~100 Cold Start Valve ~100 A/C Recharge ~100 New Battery ~150 Misc (cleaners, wipers blades, etc) ~100 Total repairs so far ~980.00 USD Still to come expenses Belt Change in 2016 or 2017 ~1500 A/C Compressor Rebuild/exchange ~1000 (it works, but makes chattering noise) Interior Re-Dye ~500 (I'm going to try Leatherique) New Tires ~1000 (They have about 1 year life left in them) Total known future expenses ~4000 USD So, to summarize at the six month point, I've got about 29K USD in my car. Of that, only about $1000 was repairs. And keep in mind we do most of our own work. If you aren't the DIY type, the work would probably cost 4x what we have so far. I didn't buy the car as an investment. It was a lifelong dream to own a Ferrari - especially one that I and my 27YO son can work on. I don't ever plan to sell the car. I'm going to drive and enjoy the car through my retirement years. Maybe in a couple of years I'll have her repainted - although she doesn't really need it. Everyone will have a different experience. But so far (knock on wood), my experience has been great, and easily within my budget expectations. Sid
I dont know why the Guys in the states are not all over this car thats like 29k usd and the car only has 39k km or 25k miles rare being white.
If I were looking... I'd be all over that one! Super rare color combo! See post #93 (except all of you Mondial guys; seen it already. ) http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/mondial/488697-mondial-s-sale-5.html
Sid, Thanking you for sharing and being open and honest. I look forward to the same experience, the challenge is finding the right one at a fair price.
I have expanded my search to include late model QVs. Though I am still interested I am discovering that the T parts are a lot more expensive than the 3.2 and QVs.
I have recently decided to part with our 1988 Mondial 3.2 Coupe. It is black with a gray/black Interior.45k miles. I have owned it since 2010. The car is in good mechanical condition and the exterior and interior are still quite nice. The vehicle is a fine example of a 3.2qv. It runs well and has no drive train issues. That said it is due a belt change and the A/C needs attention. I'm asking 28000. I had the vehicle at the Keeneland auto shoe paddock today and received many compliments on its appearance and condition. Contact information 859-576-0788 or [email protected]. would be happy to discuss with you.
If Tman PM'd you with an opportunity to purchase his (id be shocked) than thats the best Mindial coupe i have ever seen, sat in and drove. Its spectacular but then again, im not sure thats what he PM'd you for. But if so, and its under 100k, jump on it. Mines better , but its not for sale.
The following ad on Craigslist here in Portland, OR. I have no connection to the seller/car/etc. Ran across this and thought I'd share. I'm also looking for a 3.2 Mondial, preferably a coupe. I'm ok with higher miles (60 or 70k miles), as long as it has been properly maintained.
For you folks looking for a T cab I just stumbled upon a Blue Sera for sale at a dealer ferrari for sale, ferrari restorations, ferrari repairs, ferrari ppi, ferrari restoration, ferrari restoration service, ferrari restoration shops I have never heard of this dealer so can't vouch for them either way just happened to see the ad. Blue Sera is absolutely stunning to see in person.
Hi Sid, I just bought an '83 Mondial QV coupe. Picking it up in a month and I'll post pics then. I was laughing to myself reading your post because the costs you list so far are cheaper than what I've been putting into a '95 Merc e320 wagon this last year! I hope your experience extends my way as well. The key will be finding a good independent shop, I think. I had a Mondial QV cab back in the 90's that I co-owned with my Dad, which was a cool way to do it. We only took it to the dealer once, for an air filter change - $1200 bucks! I couldn't believe it. After that we went independent!
