I'll add... 5. If he or she already has their own significant fan base to bring to the sport. Ex: Rossi is American and is solid, but the only Americans who know about him are F1 fans. He's not going to increase F1's exposure in the U.S. by much, if at all (not that there's anything wrong with that imho. I rather enjoy F1 being a niche sport here & not being the sport everyone follows).
Tell me why the US public should be in awe about Alexander Rossi? He has hardly won any race in the lower categories, and no championship. That's where up-and-coming talented drivers get spotted. At the moment, Rossi isn't exactly setting GP2 ablaze, is he? I am not even sure he is F1 material...
