Hi guys, Does anyone know if the original exhaust heat shield Works with the Ansa Sport muffler tips? My 76 308 has the Ansa which was a dealer option and I'm thinking of buying and installing the OEM exhaust shield. I'm just not sure if now the openings will line up correctly. Big Tex? Thank you.
Ha! Lucky I saw this...the answer is "no"...... I have a 'never ending project" and the perforated stock, to have some made. You need the ovals 1" further apart, to fit the ANSA spacing. No way to really modify the stock part (which I have had several of, to examine)....so I have a pattern in hand, to do a run. Me Birdman Artic Lights (he has my old 22641, with a brand NEW ANSA!) You, if you like
Ha! It's not so much for heat protection, as to visually clean up the rear lines of the car. You are right the Euros all had various rear treatments, and the fiberglass cars did not use this part in the USA. It is only a steel, NON CAT North American car, that had this part, from late 1976 until 1977. Once catalysts were fitted, it went to the later, larger "hamster balls" louvered piece!
Pictures of "the situation".... This is the pattern I pulled from an OEM part. Valeria's metal shop made it, then became "too busy" to fab my project.. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thanks, Bix Tex. I really like the sound and the extended tips of the Ansa. I even like the look without the shield, but I'm really thinking the dealer took the shield off when the Ansa was installed. Whenever that had been. Just trying to keep it original on the 308 and researching. Keep me in the loop how the aftermarket shield progresses.
I feel the same way, the reason the part is now so rare... I didn't think so much about the added tip length, I could move it rearward on the mounting flange. This is per the OEM dimensions... I think it will still fall well into the barrell of the "snaps', as the original one did.
