    355 is a special car, performance wise youre better off with a 360, but the 355 is the last of a certain kind of Ferrari and it still looks special.

    I feel like this car has a greater appreciation potential than the 360. However this might be limited by its service costs. Or perhaps its high maintenance characteristics will help the uniqueness of it as a ferrari.

    Serie fioranos now going for over $200k

    What do you guys think, is this the 993 Ferrari?

    but it will never see the upper reaches of the stratosphere like the 993 GT2 has...

    Just think it looks sleeker, cooler and more refined then the 360, also sounds better, performs pretty similar and is truly the end of a different era (high maintenance, non perfect era). 360 and 430 are more similar than 355 and 360. Not as many made as the 360 and 430.

    IMHO people like to babble on the forums how you shouldn't think about a ferrari's value cause of maintenance costs depreciation etc. and to enjoy. That's a fine point. But when you see Ferraris and Porsches from 60s, 70s and even some 80s going for hundreds of thousands and some over a million, you can't help but think there will be cars from the 90s and 00s that do the same. Not looking for millions on the 355 but with the stick shift phased out there is potential on these cars. Serie fiorano, barchetta, 512tr are good options.


    When it comes down to it though air cooled porsches are the better investment. Low cost with unique characteristics. Hopefully porsche will drop manual transmissions. I like the idea of being able to enjoy an investment, or at least preserved capital.

    355>911/964 and the 911/964 has sky rocketed. I know I've been looking for one for a while. The 355 will go up no doubt about it in mind any more.

    First 12-cyl mid-engine Ferrari.
    Built in small numbers.
    Built when Enzo was alive
    Considered a classic.

    Ahem...I'd argue the 355 was 'nearly' the last of a certain kind, that actual title going to the 348. No ***** electronic assistances, and built when Enzo was alive. I believe it may well also have been the last production model he personally signed off.

    I have two 'toy' cars, an '89 911, the last of the Mohicans, the last car that Porsche engineering called a 911, and a '96 355, arguably the last of the old school F-cars. They're worth roughly the same money, but the 355 gets out of the garage a lot more often. There is a certain 'wildness' about the 355. A 'je ne sais quoi' if you will. My Porsche is just too civilized, and the later models are even more so.

    Tim, I loved your comment. The 'twinge' I was thinking about concerned patting myself on the back for choosing this car to rejoin the F-car club. If others want to pat themselves elsewhere, that's OK too. :)

    I'd give the 355 10 more years before it starts seeing real appreciation.

    I'm hoping mine will have 200k miles on it by then.

    For what? Front wheel bearing are pushing $2K and many parts are NLA; with over 5000 made they aint special. Not saying they are bad cars, not fun to drive, not good looking. But faith in sustained value...Ferrari are barely supporting it. Try and buy an alternator.

    I think it's pretty obvious which way 355 values are going.

    All the sooking and whining in the world by cheapskates won't change anything.

    Let's come back in 5 years and see, shall we?

    My prediction is that properly maintained and looked after 355s will be very highly sought after, and priced accordingly.

    What do you think the price for a well cared for one will be in AUD 5 years from now. Your market seems to have very limited cars.

    It's hard to say as our market is so small. Probably $150-200k - maybe higher for perfect examples - which is not a lot different to now.

    What tends to happen is that when the UK market takes off (as it already has), a lot of our good cars get sent over there. We then end up with a shortage of cars here which pushes the price up a bit.

    But frankly our market is very insular and pretty irrelevant.

    You need to bear in mind how appallingly we are ripped off for the new cars to make any sense of it.
    (ie. A new 458 was often around $700k once specced up and on the road).
