Love this!! If I ever have kids, I will take this page out of your playbook So true. I find the desire to do this to be generous and from the heart, but the outcome is almost always ugly. I grew up in a privileged and financially secure environment. We never had to worry about money, but my parents made us earn everything we had. And they set a ceiling on material things as well. Alot of my neighbors took a different route and gave their kids everything they ever wanted and some. Almost all of them now have no drive and the ones who were indulged the most are doing absolutely nothing with their lives and are screwups. It's a slippery slope
Yep, that's all there is to it. I use both USAA and Hagerty, depending on the vehicle, and I believe that both have an age restriction of 25 years old (I do let them drive the Porsches on occasion, and taught my oldest to drive a manual in an XKE (learned just like I did ... same exact car!, and taught my daughter in a 356). The age restriction also makes it easy to turn them down when they ask to borrow one of the cars for the night, etc. Things sure are different now. I used to take out my dad's XKE from the time I was 16.... do teenagers even "cruise" these days, or is it all iPhones and texting? (Maybe a good topic for another thread)
