Hello fellow 308 owners! I am new to ownership, bought a 1982 308 GTSi at an auction a couple of months ago. It was a bit of a spur of the moment decision, aided by my 10 year old daughter who was really keen on having a red Ferrari to drive around in.

    Year: 1982
    Model: 308 GTSi
    VIN: ZFFHA02B000040695
Mileage: 87,000 KM’s (It’s a Euro car that was imported into the US, then into Canada)

I have been reading this great forum quite a bit trying to determine next steps, as buying an auction car is always a bit of a risk when it doesn’t include service records, and this one didn’t. The only thing I had a chance to do was run the VIN through Car Fax and it came up clean. I was really relieved that it fired right up once I took possession, and seemed to run great on a couple of exploratory drives around the neighbourhood. Once I got the car home and took a look there are a few issues though:

    - Leaking from oil pan and the shift shaft seal, and maybe other areas
    - More rust bubbles on the bottom of the doors than I initially noticed pre-purchase
    - Degraded rubber seals around the doors and Targa top
    - Some questionable paint areas, could be touchup, or panel repaint
    - Wouldn’t start after I parked in driveway after a longer drive, waited 30 minutes, and it started right up
    - Brake squeal (Pads probably)

I will be using this forum to research the best way to address all of the above, and scheduling an inspection at our Ferrari dealership here in Calgary Alberta. Thanks in advance to anyone who helps me with questions that I can’t find the answer to with a forum search!

For those that are interested I paid $31,500 CAD including buyers fees at the auction, which I hope is well bought, as I have convinced my wife that it was, and would hate to have her find out otherwise. In the adrenaline of the auction I went over my limit by $6.5K. :=)

Picture from auction day, and then a couple of more after I got it home.

Wow I would say very well bought. That car would be closer to 100,000 Canadian here in the UK. The money you paid wouldn't buy you any kind 308 here. Good luck. I'm sure you'll love the car. Interior looks good and you've got the smaller dantier euro bumpers. It has got federalized rectangular front and rear side markers as well as the small round euro ones at the front. You could always delete the US ones if you do any paintwork.
I love that your daughter talked you into it. Sooooooo cool.

I saw that car at the auction, definitely well bought. I actually bought the black one that was there after the auction for about the same price. PM me if you want to get together to compare notes.

Ahh, but for the sensitivity, brilliance and innocence of children and animals, where would we be?

It all came together - - - for your 308.

    Enjoy,

    Hank

Dave, I was keen on the black 308 as well, I think you got a better buy than me, it looked to be in better shape!

A mere 22K in euro's ?!?! The both of you did a fan-tas-tic deal, seen from European perspective !!! For nice/good looking, running cars without serious issues I don't see you guys ever getting financially under water with them, that is, not as long as the whole Universe doesn't collapse.

So cherish your kid(dies) and your car(s) (in that order, of course) and be happy to let the kid(dies) drive it/them in due time !!

Darren, think the cars are about the same - similar leaks, rusty door skins, paint issues
plus on mine add stuck windows (now fixed), poor door fit (now fixed), horn compressor not functional (now fixed) and probably twenty other things I haven't found yet.

    Enjoy the adventure!

    Very well bought!!

    Welcome.

The rust bubbles are actually easily fixed, new sheet metal is readily available.

Sort out the quibbles and you will do fine!!!
    Lovely little one.

Mine got a new Saturn Sky convertible.

For some reason, these cars don't fare well at auction, some days.
I almost sure it stems from the sellers not realizing what "The Records" mean, on Ferraris.

They shoot themselves in the foot, on that!

    Darren,

You bought a bargain, I suspect probably $ 20-30 below what a car in that condition would fetch in your neck of the woods, here in South Africa it would probably fetch around
    $ 80000.00.
So for the saving, you would probably be able to address most of the issues which you have mentioned, and still be in the black!
Its a great car, enjoy the memories you'll make with your daughter. :)

    Nick.
