Just checking to see if anyone here was the buyer for my '86 328 GTS off ebay yesterday. Someone used the "Buy it Now" to end the auction bidding but I have had no communication from the Buyer and no deposit has been received. Its a great car looking for a new home. If it is anyone here please let me know.

I would start to worry someone has queered your auction....

A legit buyer would have sent a message, by now???

That's my concern. If they are not legit, I have to start the bid process over again. Buyer has 100% feedback and 78 transactions to date but with ebay, there really in no penalty for not performing on an auto auction and the Seller can't leave negative feedback.

I'd trade for a TDF 550 as that's where the proceeds are going to go anyway.

No bad feedback but you can have them banned from selling on eBay.

I've sold a car on Ebay. Typically, for a car like this I would think the buyer would be very responsive and excited. Per the terms of your sale, if you required a deposit within a certain time period and didn't get it, I wouldn't wait long before opening a claim and relisting the car. You can also put in a stipulation that they reach out to you before making a bid.

Given the record of the winning bidder - reach out and send a note. If you don't have a response soon, move on. Use the system as it should be used.

They have 24 hours for their deposit. 2 hours left to go. So far no response to my emails and no deposit in sight.

no you can not. i had this happen twice, complete flake there is almost zero recourse.

you can leave bad feedback, and you can get out of the selling fees, but you cant ban them.

Complete BS from the "buyer". He's claiming that he put it on his Watch List and had no intention of buying it. Complete BS. There are multiple steps that one must go through for a Buy it Now purchase.

This troll simply screwed up my auction with no intention of buying anything. Ebay buyer goes under the name "gastonleg". Be wary of this "buyer".

Well that sucks. Ebay just continues to get worse and worse. Hope you can get it relisted easily and actually sold. And we should flood the prick with notes shaming him too. :)

Make sure you file a complaint with Ebay so they don't charge the normal fees for a completed sale.

I have sold several sports cars and vintage motorcycles successfully on eBay but it has become more and more of a challenge. These days it is probably best to think of it as a way to advertise, rather than a way to successfully close a sale.

Yes and make sure to file a non-paying case against the buyer. Ebay frowns on non paying idiots. I've also updated my eBay sites to block this person from bidding on my stuff as well.

To be fair, we've always had time-wasters who seem to get some sort of weird pleasure out of messing around with people when it comes to selling cars.

In the old days it was either people ringing up about a car, making arrangements to come and view it so you spend the whole day waiting for them to turn up, only for them to never appear, or people agreeing to buy a car and then later on getting back in contact to say they've changed their minds and won't be buying the car after-all.

I do agree though that if it can be proven that the person who "bought" the car on ebay never had any intention of buying it, then they should be punished for messing people around.

At the very least the "buyer" should have to pay for all of the sellers listing fees - Both for the original listing and for the subsequent listing.

Dude, happens ALL THE TIME. Go see my "eBay SUCKS!" thread in Silver.

I just "sold" a Scag mower for the SECOND TIME AND FOR THE SECOND TIME IN A ROW THE BIDDER DID NOT PAY!

In the past 6 months, I've had 5 no pays on 2 auctions, never sold either item on eBay...go post in the thread because EBAY SUCKS!

Is it really Ebay that sucks though or is it the people (time wasters) who use (abuse) Ebay who suck?

What if this car had been sold at a live auction (as in not on-line), and the winning bidder walked away from the auction without paying for it, and left false details with no way to trace them?

Would it be the auction house that sucks or the time wasting winning bidder who sucks?

What exactly do you expect Ebay to do to pre-empt these sort of time wasters? - Use their magic crystal ball to weed them out?

As I've previously posted, when it comes to selling things, time-wasters have existed long before Ebay came along. Previously these sort of people used their phones to waste peoples time, now they use their computers.

To blame Ebay for the time-wasters is a little unfair!

If ebay has no recourse towards the offending buyers/bidders, then I would say they suck. Intentionally ending someone's auction is a crappy thing to do and reposting the item usually diminishes the auction results for the seller.

Here is one idea to help cure the problem with eBay buyers: eBay make a requirement that the successful bidder have a credit card on file with eBay and an immediate hold for the seller's ad costs, to be credited toward the purchase price. That would cut down on some of the foolishness.

Better yet, they should immediately charge the $500 - $1,000 deposit to their card.
