Maybe, I did a bunch of online searching about this a while back and there was no indication that anyone had suffered consequences. I would imagine it would depend on how fast the car was going also. If your cruising 80 with cars around you at 75, I doubt anything happens. If you're going 100, that's another story. The jammers are readily visible - not while moving, but when stopped they are pretty easy to find.

That said, the recommended procedure when they alert is to slow down fast and turn the jammer off in a few seconds so that the cop does get reading and assumes it was just a little harder to a get lock on the car.

Can we bring it back to the question: What are your current systems you have installed in your Ferrari?
I am using an older Valentine but it has started giving periodic false laser warnings, think it is time to go to a more current version, mine is so old it can be updated.

Some say the older Valentines are better on Ka. However Escort and others seem to be catching Valentine.

    Wondering what everyone else has.

9500 CI is the standard install for cars at FTB.

I have a couple of older laser guns that I used to calibrate traffic monitoring systems. It is really difficult to get a "lock" on a vehicle and as the unit is locking, you get various readings so I don't think a cop would be surprised to see a --- on the display. At least not enough to start chasing someone.

Interesting. I've always been on the fence for the jammer type of equipment. Thing is, according to California law it is illegal to install such equipment, so are there reputable shops out there that will do the install? Or do I have to get it done in Nevada.

Last ticket I received was eight years ago, and it was a laser ticket. My radar/laser detector was useless. Never even went off, Passport 9500ix. I Was in mixed traffic, and asked cop how he was certain it was my car (since I wondered why my detector didn't go off), he said his gun had a sight where he could see my car with a red dot (laser marker) on it when it locked.

Do you know what they charge to put it in, Jasone?

My understanding it the 9500 is identical to the BEL STiR as far as radar and connectivity to Escort Live is concerned (only difference is red lighting on the controller vs. blue on the Escort), but the BEL allows you to use the AL-P laser system, which is updated more regularly and tends to win the annual shootouts because it can shift the latest guns.

I'll have to check my last invoice.. I've had it installed on my last 3 FCars and one is going on my Speciale when it arrives next week. I believe it's around $1K for the install.. there is a shop close by that does a much better job than FTB for $800.

I have an Escort Max. It does a very good job filtering out alerts and has GPS to lock out known falses that do alert. That was a major factor for me against Valentine, I knew lots of false alerts would make me crazy.

That said, if I were to do it again I might choose Valentine just for the arrows and turn off all bands but Ka as that's really all they use here in CA the best I can tell. Wouldn't hurt if they updated their styling though, thing looks like a CB radio from the 80's....

I had a blinder jammer on my M5. No issues in that car. You had to turn it off when it lit up or youd you'd be suspect regardless. Just enough time to come off the gas or come down a gear though.

That's very reasonable. I want to put one in my California but the local shops here -- including the installer Ferrari of New England recommends -- it winds up being $4500-5500 total. You can buy the system online for $1400, so $3k-$4k for the install is a little bit nuts.

Yes, you can see the car that you're aiming at in the sight but the signal doesn't really "lock" till it bounces off of the license plate. The exception is vehicles that have a flat surface like a truck.

Wow, thanks for actually posting this so quickly! I am an audiophile and have amassed a very nice system at home with Krell amplification and processor, Martin Logan Electrostatic speakers and 3 JL Audio subs among other items so I don't mind spending $$$ for good sound! But what they are quoting is absolutely ridiculous! $600 for installing front speakers, $600 for rear speaker install etc??? Those Focals (excellent speakers) also retail for $1299 and not $2,000!

Just because you drive a Ferrari doesn't mean they need to rip you off!
Besides I actually think my stock sound system in the 360 isn't all that bad when using my iphone as a source. I hardly ever turn it on because the main sound system is outside and I just crack the windows! The Challenge Stradale racing exhaust minus precats is the best aftermarket sound system imho!

Exactly. I'm a musician, and I know what I'm hearing ... all I really wanted was to change the head unit and the door speakers to improve it a little bit -- the stock system in the California is really terrible, not even close to what you'll find in an Audi or a Porsche.

I don't even know what, exactly, a Mosconi 6 to 8 processor does, but I'm pretty damn sure I don't need it to listen to the radio or my iPhone for a few minutes if I'm caught in a traffic jam and can't hear the engine.

And yes, I own a retail business, so any of these components are going to be A mark -- so if it lists for $2000 it costs $1000 wholesale. $1299 is plenty of markup, I don't need to pay 100 percent.

I don't want to take the car to Best Buy and have a teenager work on it, either. But, please.

This particular shop quoted $5400 for the Escort system installed. The other two quotes I got were $4000 and $4400. The local BMW dealer will put one in my wife's 435 convertible for $2400.

Can you share some pics of the install on your 430? Are the front laser units mounted behind the front intake grills or in front of them? I'm considering doing the install myself but would like to get some ideas from others...

    Thanks!

all the auto journalists I listen to swear by the Valentine. Yes it still looks like it is from the '80's I believe in form over function - I mean really, I drive a GT4. Inside it has been tweaked and I like the directional aspects. There are a couple stealth options for it now, too. Check out their website.

Why waste the money on an install?? It costs you points at a concours. They are mounted low in the grill and on the back. The technology outdates quickly. It is useless in any other vehicle you may be driving. What works for me in several vehicles including a PU truck. V1 with the latest updates mounted as high as possible on the windshield but below the tinting. Waze app running on a smart phone tucked into a goose neck windshield mount.Completely portable.
Multiple state use: For some reason the police use multiple shots on laser. First shot, lift possibly brake before second confirmation shot. Of course if you are the only car on the highway at the time you run the chane of a one shot ticket or if on a 2 lane one shot while passing several s-l-o-w vehicles will do it.
