The rear seats were out getting reupholstered when the pictures were taken. The LM002 sold with the seats installed. The A/C was also not working, it had a sagging headliner, the carpet could have been replaced and it needed some carb work done. It sat in a personal car museum for 18 years and was only driven a few thousand KM in that time period.

So many auction houses post insufficient images, from what we can see the leather on the seat inserts seem to be a bit loose, but the dashboard is nice & straight.

To create a higher pedestrian impact sone, acc to new goverment regulation, my car had the same wing ,wich i quickly removed and stored in my garage,

  9. I've seen it before. The spoiler was included in the bumper height to get past DOT.

Back in the grey market importation days, one clever way to have the Countach meet the USA front bumper height requirement was to put this spoiler on. The spoiler IS the front bumper in disguise. They were actually built with a very heavy steel skeleton which attached to the chassis under the front deck lid, and, as such, were allowed by many a federal official to pass the front bumper requirement.

Subsequently, many were taken off. Aesthetically, many like them, and many hate them, but I would prefer it to the factory's tall black bumpers from 1987 on, if I had to live with one of the two evils! Of course, euro bumpers is best, as always!

The car in question is a US spec 1988.5 model, and it came from the factory with the tall black ugly bumpers. Somebody decided to replace the tall black rubber bumper with a euro one, and also added the front spoiler. I would have left it just with the euro bumper. Odd to see the front spoiler bumper on a US spec car. Usually only seen on grey market imports.

To add some nuance to it, this particular one is not the same wing that was used in the early grey market LP400S's. IIRC, those wings actually un-clipped from the steel struts so as to allow the nose bonnet to open with the struts not moving (passing through slots in the nose) or some similar arrangement - maybe were hinged below the bonnet.... In any case, the lower, more foward sleek profile of those early front wings along with the lower, more swept early rear wings added to the lowbody look was outrageously exotic and beautiful. Later, taller cars with the more upright wing struts just don't do it for me and the later wings (rear and front) just interrupt the shape of the car IMHO.

I never though anything could look uglier on the front of a Countach than a US bumper, but that wing is hideous. Looks like something a Red Neck would do if he won the lottery and bought a Countach !

    Correct.

This was introduced by Automotive Compliance Inc (ACI) as engineered by Messrs Thomas & Rarewala to conform with the 5mph DOT impact mandates!

The whole thing is explained in the March 1981 issue of Popular Mechanics by Rarewala himself.

I personally inspected this front wing application when Roy Rossi showed me his LP400S S2 some 20 years ago.

The application was held in place by a pair of lynch-pins so that the wing could be removed and the front hood lid opened. In this instance the vertical buttresses were welded into the front frame with slots cut into the hood to accommodate them. This setup means that the wing unit was not held fast per se, and it moved around a bit as was visible from the passenger seat when riding in the car!

At speed, one can only imagine the ground-effect (or lack thereof) of the front wing unit at high speed

That said, Rossi drove it often, hard & fast, in fact I remember when he was a record-holder at the Virginia City Hillclimb before the fast Porsches arrived. The top image below is @ The Corkscrew at Laguna Seca. You can see the lynch-pins in the top image.

It has many nice features, for example I like the apparently well-preserved dashboard.

However, just from the images, even without a proper inspection I note the following purely as an observational guide which would apply to any similar Countach:

    - Paintwork, at least the side sills where the satin-black seam-line has not been applied.

    - Engine cam-covers filed, components look old in keeping with fuel lines which themselves look very old, non-original clamps

    - Non-original carpet-mats

    - Wheels refinished, non-OEM bolts, Campagnolo stickers missing

    - Countach S2 with later S3 mirrors

    - Non OEM aftermarket exhaust system

    - @ 45,000km so I'd want to know if the engine has been rebuilt

1121296 was delivered to switzerland and obviously is still here, the Background Shows clearly the alpes.

but was is strange, the Picture of the ID plate Shows 1121296: http://www.rmauctions.com/images/lots/medium/LF15/LF15_r124_021.jpg
but the next Image Shows 1121198 stamped on the Frame! http://www.rmauctions.com/images/lots/medium/LF15/LF15_r124_022.jpg

I heard rumours that during 1980-1981 Lambo Motors got cars from other Clients directly from the production line and they got other vins, perhaps this car is the proof.
BTW another #1121198 exists, it's the White one with supercharger which was for sale last years in Region of Berne and a member from here bought.

Here another LP400s for sale, don't know the VIN yet, could be #1121148 or #1121172:
