Turbo lag in a P1 ? I wonder why people comes with such a conclusion or is it because someone said so ! It's clear to me anyone who knows the 918 it shines on small short tight tracks it's a monster, once your try a fully F1 circuit things will change to favour the more powerful more aerodynamic P1, you just need to be so accurate the P1 honestly needs a another level of driver it won forgive you easily. I driven both and my 918 WP on its way so lovely to have two different personality cars and character it's a challenger to master both and extract the best out n both of them. Two great cares but please stop the lag thing, or the heavy 918 marks they both lovely cars. Both cars just work differently. I know what they can do and can't do. Mbn
As a P1 owner I can confirm that it does have turbo lag. The P1 is much more sensitive to what gear you are in. Wrong gear not much torque. You need to factor that in on the track all the time. The LF and the 918 do not have this issue. Not sure where the myth comes from that the 918 will not perform on larger tracks with longer straights. It has such an advantage powering out of the corners that the P1 superior acceleration is unfortunately not enough. It is here where the P1 loses big time. I love my P1 but I am realistic enough to know that the car as brilliant as it is does have some shortcomings.
I am not following this thread very often so maybe I am wrong, but I get impression that P1 & 918 owners test their cars on track trying to explore all advantages and limits. On other hand LaF owners are pretty silent in that regard.
All cars are sensitive to what gear you are in, you can't be in higher gear and expect the car to over take a bus ! Nothing perosnal but it seems your driving experiance is limited, again no turbo lag and it's way overrated I drove all 3, even people complain about Bugatti Veyron/SS lag yet I never understood what the hell they talking about when I drove my Veyrons. If turbo lag an issue I wouldn't saw the laferrari on my mirror multiple times, but to be fare that's straight line acceleration. I will be in Pure Mclaren if you want me to show you how to drive the P1 to its limites without the nonsense turbo lag you experiencing, please pm me and be my guest we can have a cup of coffee after that. If Muhammed Ali was the greatest fighter of all time i guess I'm the greatest P1 driver of all time (beside Chris) as simple as that. About the 918 as much as I love it as much I believe it won't preforme at an F1 track , why ? simple I got few data from few circuits, it could be bad drivers will soon found out. And i won't be mad if someone proved me wrong i own one so no perosnal issues here and I love bott. Edit: I could be the greatest 918 driver/owner of all time too just needs few more sessions the few upcoming months. Ops sorry no horse in this race Mbn
Drive a LaF, CGT, 918 or GT3. Move your foot up or down one inch and the engine will move instantly with your foot no matter how fast your foot moves. Your head jerks forward and back with your foot moving just an inch. P1 feels like this? Not that were seeing this in these videos (except maybe the 918 crash) but it's sure lots of fun driving cars with this type of response.
IMO 918 is dangerous just like Carrera GT was but in another form. It can surprise you with its very aggressive responsiveness if you are not experienced diver, so you end up crashing that thing just like you mentioned recent case on French riviera. One more video showing insane 918 short acceleration: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OsYGZs5_Z9A
"Limited driving experience" perhaps you are right 2500 Km in my P1, 2800 in my LaFerrari and 1800 Km in my 918. You are right I should be driving my cars more. Problem is I also love to drive my other cars. And thank you for your kind invitation to Pure Mclaren, but I got one directly from Mclaren. By the way what is your extensive driving experience of these cars?
Not sure if your Km counts for more experience, but it's good you enjoying your cars. You misunderstood me, im not Mclaren to invite you , but as a Mclaren owner I knew you can attend so I asked to show you what a P1 can do and how it's not easy to extract the full car potentials like the other two it need some special skills and I'm sure the team at PM will do as well. I won't brag about my experience drag, track, tuning etc, I work as mechanic on all my cars too if that's counts too lol. but simple I can drive and drive fast to a point people always wonder how n hell I passed them driving the same car and they send their cars to the dealer the next day thinking something is wrong with their cars. I really hope you don't do the same. Mbn
Its reality I'm the greatest does this bothers you ? No need to roll your eyes just prove me wrong. But i doubt you can. Mbn
Assuming your revs are near the peak power band (e.g., 5-8K), floor the throttle in a P1 and 918. 918 full power will be nearly instant. My guess is P1 full power will take 1-2 seconds. Can't mess with physics, at least for now. That 1-2 second delay occurs many times on shorter tracks (and the street). Eventually P1 falls behind as a result. This is less noticeable on bigger tracks. Turbos are fun in a straight line, but they suck (no pun intended) when you're on and off the throttle.
That's Formula 1 drivers different league (Alonso cool guy along with Button) I'm talking about owners I can't even get inside a formula 1 as im an amature bodybuilder and 6'2. How real is Super Dave lol as real as Super Man ? I'm enjoying it too. Still spamming ? Keep going lol, God is it that hard for you to prove me wrong ? Be real you can't. Mbn
I think they are all great... I mean it's splitting hairs at this point IMHO... I know it's got to have been said - but the fact the Porsche is about 1/2 million dollars cheaper than the other two (assuming your buddies with the local McLaren/Porsche/Ferrari dealer owners and got em MSRP) my nod going to the Porsche on that alone with my armchair "magazine" testing/racing. Cheers
That is exactly what I mean. The P1 has a 3.8 L turbo (same as a Porsche turbo and Nissan GTR). Low down in the rev range the e motor does not provide enough torque to counter the lack of power. Once the turbos spin up the Acceleration is mind blowing. The LF pulls hard in every gear. So does the 918. The P1 does not. It needs around 5k revs to get going. I would love to see a direct comparison between the 918 and the P1 at Spa. Then all these discussions would conclude with facts instead of beliefs and emotional excesses. Don't really care which comes out on top. I bought my P1 apart from a long term affinity for Mclaren because I believed Ron Dennis when he said it was the fastest car in all situations. A game changer. Well it's a fantastic car, and I will never sell mine, but it is most certainly not a.game changer.
Thank you for your input. 918 is close to a game changer. Even CGT on modern rubber devastates all but the newest hyper cars.
As the TERS motor costs 1mm E I'm not so sure however we can fit this system if a buyer wants it. Anti lag systems that cut ignition but allow fuel to enter hot turbos and spool work well and cost less but do use more fuel which the F1 guys can't.
Just had an interesting experience with the 918 and my CGT. My wife is a good driver with quite a bit of track experience. 2 weeks ago after the CGT came back from Stuttgart after a service and new tires we took both out for a drive. Before I had driven 200 Km to get the new tyres scrubbed in. I was absolutely flat out on the limit with the CGT. Whereas in the corners I could keep the distance the 918 just eats you up on every exit. Sorry but no chance at all. The same experience was made at a recent 918/CGT outing in Italy. The CGT drivers were somewhat astounded by the speed of the 918. The CGT will have no chance against the P1 and LF either. It just lacks outright power. Regarding the new tires. Yes they have much more grip and the car is much easier to drive. But the new tires have a softer shoulder and the turn into corners is too spongy for my liking. The old tires lack outright grip, but you could position the car much more accurately entering corners. After living for over 10 years with the car and experiencing it to the full, I still think that the image that it is a difficult car to drive is way exaggerated. My view is that too many inexperienced drivers got hold of the car albeit the Paul Walker car had an experienced driver, but was on very old tires. Very sad what happened. The 918 is a very easy and safe car to drive. But flooring it in the Nikki Beach car park which has asphalt covered with sand is asking for trouble, especially when you brake.
